Elden Ring is an extremely difficult game, especially newcomers to the Soulslike genre. However, it does employ a lot of mechanics that can lessen the difficulty for newcomers. From an expansive world map to a heavily bolstered magic system, Elden Ring finds ways to make combat less daunting. One of the biggest features of the game’s combat mechanics are the Spirit Ashes, which allow players to summon allies in specific combat scenarios that aid them in defeating difficult enemies.
Achievement and trophy hunters may be familiar with Elden Ring‘s “Legendary Spirit Ashes” achievement. As the name suggests, this requires players to collect all of the Legendary Spirit Ashes in the Lands Between. The game doesn’t tell players which Spirit Ashes are Legendary, and with over 50 summons available, it can be hard to deduce. The Legendary Spirit Ashes are Lhutel the Headless, Black Knife Tiche, Redmane Knight Ogha, Mimic Tear, Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff, and Cleanrot Knight Finlay. These are some of the hardest Spirit Ashes to obtain, but for good reason. Each Legendary Spirit Ash is capable of extremely high damage output and can take the player’s combat abilities to the next level.
Where to Find Elden Ring’s Mimic Tear
The Mimic Tear Spirit Ash is a unique one. Instead of using the player’s FP to summon, the Mimic Tear uses health instead. This can be a positive and a negative for players depending on the attributes they have invested in. For players who have invested heavily in HP and veered away from magical combat, the Mimic Tear can be a great choice. This Spirit Ash perfectly mimics the player’s appearance and armaments to fight enemies as a second version of the player. To obtain this Spirit Ash, gamers will need to defeat the demigod Starscourge Radahn and gain access to the underground area named Nokron, Eternal City. The Spirit Ash is located in a chest in the Night’s Sacred Ground area of the City.
Where to Find Elden Ring’s Lhutel The Headless
Lhutel the Headless is a Legendary Spirit Ash that players can obtain pretty early in the game. This is a summoned version of the Mausoleum Knight enemy, which has the ability to teleport when in combat to avoid an enemy’s hits. This summon has a huge health pool and great armor protection, and its spear can even inflict the instant death status effect on enemies. To get Lhutel the Headless, players will need to defeat the Cemetery Shade boss in the Tombsward Catacombs found in the Weeping Peninsula region. This boss isn’t too difficult, but finding it can be tedious once inside the dungeon.
Where to Find Elden Ring’s Black Knife Tiche
The Black Knife Tiche Spirit Ash is dropped by the boss Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader. This boss can be found in the Ringleader’s Evergaol, one of mystical prisons that holds powerful enemies within. Alecto is one of the most difficult bosses in the game and moves at incredible speeds, so players should only attempt this when they are leveled up and ready for a serious challenge. The Ringleader’s Evergaol is found in Liurnia on the Plateau, which is only accessible by completing Ranni’s questline. This is a long and tedious mission that takes players all over the map, but the Black Knife Tiche Spirit Ash is worth the trouble.
Where to Find Elden Ring’s Redmane Knight Ogha
Redmane Knight Ogha is another Legendary Spirit Ash that requires players to have beaten the demigod Radahn. It is found in the War-Dead Catacombs in the Caelid region. These Catacombs are only accessible after players have beaten Radahn, as its entrance lies at the northern end of the boss arena. Once in the Catacombs, players must defeat the boss, the Putrid Tree Spirit, to obtain the Spirit Ash. This is an exceptionally difficult boss due to its cramped arena that necessitates up close and personal combat. The size of the arena mixed with the enormity of the boss and its devastating physical attacks can put players in a tough spot.
Where to Find Elden Ring’s Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff
Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff is located in the Sainted Hero’s Grave, a dungeon in the Altus Plateau region of Elden Ring. To reach this location, players must progress through the story until they have the ability to activate the Great Lift of Dectus, which takes them to the Plateau. Once here, players must work their way through the Grave and kill this dungeon’s version of the Ancient Hero of Zamor, who will drop the Spirit Ash upon defeat.
Enemies in this area have a unique combat mechanic that makes them immune to damage unless they are brought into a patch of light in the ground. This is a difficult mechanic to get a handle on at first, but if players enter the dungeon with this knowledge in hand, they can move through it in no time.
Where to Find Elden Ring’s Cleanrot Knight Finlay
Cleanrot Knight Finlay is located in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. The Haligtree is a late-game location with difficult enemies, so players should only seek out this Spirit Ash once they are high-level and experienced with the game’s combat. The path to the Haligtree is a long and difficult one. It involves the Great Lift of Rold and two Secret Medallions, similar to the Great Lift of Dectus. Once here, players can find the Legendary Spirit Ash in a chest guarded by a difficult knight enemy.
