Killing Eve Introduced a Femme Fatale Worse than Villanelle | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Killing Eve Season 4, Episode 3, “A Rainbow in Beige Boots,” now available on BBC America and AMC+.

One of the things Killing Eve felt light on over the years was deadly assassins. Sure, Jodie Comer’s guilt-ridden Villanelle stood out, while Eve upgraded to become a better weapon, but others such as Rhian from the Twelve didn’t feel as intimidating in their brief appearances.

Thankfully, Season 4 bucked this trend by introducing a new femme fatale in the spy game Eve wants to dismantle. And the scary thing is, this emotionally broken, psychopathic young lady is worse than Villanelle and thirsty for blood.

The new threat is Anjana Vasan’s Pam, seen earlier this season when Eve tracked clues to an English funeral home. There, Pam cut a creepy figure, speaking to dead bodies. Eve later trailed her getting into Hélène’s car, confirming she was part of the evil mistress’ plan to either take down or take over the Twelve. The first sign of violence came when Pam beat Eve up in an alley with consummate ease, hinting she was indeed an assassin-in-training.

That suspicion was confirmed when her brother, Elliot, berated her in the morgue. He was the face of their family’s business, but his verbal, physical and emotional abuse went too far. He indicated he should have left her in foster care or that their parents should have followed through with an abortion.

His words led to a traumatized Pam grabbing her scalpel and stabbing the toxic sibling to death with a cold, dead look in her eyes akin to Villanelle when she murdered. Pam eventually went to Hélène to let her know what she did, begging to enter the assassins’ program. However, Hélène stressed that this impulsive act meant she wasn’t ready. Hélène needed someone patient and calculating, or else she’d have another Villanelle on her hands. It’s why she contacted Konstantin in Russia and asked him to do her this solid. She needs Pam to be properly trained, because while the potential and rage are there, they have to be controlled to make Pam the perfect blunt object.

Konstantin agreed, but it foreshadows a harrowing mentorship with a troubled person with wild tendencies. That latent ability to lose it and kill will surely have him hoping he doesn’t fail, like he and Dasha did with Villanelle. It remains to be seen if Pam’s frustration over how the glamorous Hélène doesn’t think she’s ready for more will spill over.

Pam doesn’t want to be stuck in that morgue forever, and that spontaneous moment of aggression aside, she respects the dead more than anything. As such, Pam may well calm down, thrive in her element and remove that air of obliviousness to the power she holds. This could make her an even more remorseless murderer than Villanelle, who failed at redemption. But in Pam’s case, she’ll be disciplined, discreet and dedicated, because while Villanelle killed for fun, Pam needs to kill, which could end with her taking Eve out as well to keep the sinister Hélène in the clear.

Killing Eve Season 4 is now airing on BBC America, with episodes streaming next-day on AMC+. Seasons 1-3 are currently available to stream on Hulu.
