Marc Spector’s Steven Grant alter is confronted by the Egyptian lunar god Khonshu in a haunting new clip from Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight.
The clip opens with Steven (Oscar Isaac) in an apartment building’s elevator — the only source of stable light in a long, dark hallway. Standing at the end of the hallway is Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham), who — staff in hand — menacingly makes his way towards Steven as the lights around him flicker on and off.
As Khonshu reaches the elevator, Steven is relieved to see that it’s just an old woman. He explains that the reason he’s on the floor is because he’s lost his contact lens. The woman soon becomes visibly frightened and hastily leaves the elevator as a confused Steven looks on. He then turns around to see Khonshu is right behind him.
Created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, Moon Knight first appeared in 1975’s Werewolf by Night #32. In the comics, Marc Spector was a mercenary who was betrayed and left for dead by his comrades. He was saved by Khonshu (also spelled Khonsu), who chose Marc to become the bearer of his powers on Earth, instructing him to protect the innocent as Moon Knight. Marc Spector/Moon Knight suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and, in the comics, has three more prominent alternate personalities: Steven Grant, Jake Lockley and Mr. Knight.
Moon Knight‘s first official trailer, which dropped back in January, revealed that the show opens with its lead character living as Steven Grant, responding with confusion when he is addressed as “Marc.” An official still from the series released in mid-February confirmed that Mr. Knight would factor into the show as well. Whether or not the Jake Lockley alter will make an appearance remains to be seen.
In addition to Star Wars alum Isaac as Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Moon Knight/Mr. Knight and Abraham as the voice of Khonshu, Disney+’s Moon Knight series stars Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man, May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly and Lucy Thackeray as Donna.
The show is set to premiere on March 30. It is the fifth live-action Disney+ series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Hawkeye. Coming up after Moon Knight is Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel, which premieres on Disney+ on June 8. She-Hulk will follow suit later this year.
