Actor Zach Braff has heard DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fans and he’s open to playing Blue Beetle alongside former co-star Donald Faison’s Booster Gold.
In an interview with Slash Film, the Scrubs actor discussed the possibility of reuniting with Faison in the Arrowverse. “Listen, this keeps coming up and I want you to tell all your followers: I am down to play Ted Kord,” said Braff. “Whoever owns the property. It’s DC, right? Probably part of the BerlantiVerse. He’s one of the first people who ever hired me. But yeah, Donald said that everyone [is saying that I should be Ted Kord]… I don’t follow comic books. I’m sorry. I know people love them. I don’t know anything about it, but yes, I’m here to announce that whoever owns the property. I’m down to play Ted Kord.”
Faison recently made his debut as Booster Gold in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 7 finale, “Knocked Down, Knocked Up.” In the episode, the Legends travel through time to France during World War I to save Gwyn Davies and Alun Thomas, but they have to get the Fixer’s approval first. The Fixer of this era is a golfer named Mike who at the end of the episode reveals that he’s Booster Gold. Booster is briefly seen again in the news archive in The Flash Season 8, Episode 6, “Impulsive Excessive Disorder,” when Impulse and XS return to the future post-“Armageddon.”
Similar to J.D. and Turk’s friendship in Scrubs, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are a fan-favorite and comical duo. Both were on Justice League International and they were given a comic book series in 2021, Blue and Gold, by writer Dan Jurgens and artist Ryan Sook. In the comics, Booster is often depicted as a hero from the future who’s more interested in fame and glory than saving the day. As for Ted Kord, he doesn’t have any powers to speak of, just his intelligence, wealth and a lot of handy gadgets.
Kord Industries — of which Ted Kord is the CEO — has been present in the Arrowverse for years. In Arrow, the business was located in Star City and it manufactured military-grade and highly dangerous weapons. It’s been referenced across other Arrowverse shows numerous times, but Kord himself has never been seen. Brandon Routh was expected to play Kord in Season 3 of Arrow, but he was ultimately cast as Ray Palmer/The Atom.
Xolo Maridueña from Cobra Kai has been cast as Jaime Reyes in the Blue Beetle movie. Jaime takes the mantle when the mysterious alien scarab attaches to his spine and provides him with highly advanced armor and a whole host of weapons and heightened abilities.
The Blue Beetle movie is expected to be released Aug. 18, 2023.
