My Hero Academia is a smash hit shonen action series featuring Izuku “Deku” Midoriya as the star, the quirkless boy who gained the power of One For All to become the next symbol of peace. While Izuku is a naturally humble and soft-spoken boy, he can’t help but steal the spotlight time and again during the course of My Hero Academia.
Shonen heroes tend to steal the spotlight and some of them actually enjoy it, such as the attention-seeking Naruto Uzumaki or the carefree Monkey D. Luffy. Izuku has also stolen the show more than a few times, whether or not he likes it, and this can often be a game-changer.
10 When Izuku Attacked The Sludge Villain
In the first-ever episode of My Hero Academia, the quirkless and dejected Izuku was walking along when a sludge-like villain attacked, right there in the open. By chance, this criminal seized Izuku’s childhood friend Katsuki Bakugo and nearly killed him.
Despite having no quirk, Izuku rushed over to fight the villain and free his friend and there was an entire crowd to watch. That was when the invincible All Might intervened and saved the day and Izuku’s actions made an impression on the symbol of peace. This event kick-started the entire story of My Hero Academia.
9 When Izuku Smashed The 0-Point Robot At U.A.
Early in My Hero Academia, Izuku and a handful of other U.A. hopefuls had to fight a small army of giant robots with their quirks. The robots were worth one, two, or three points each, but a few robots were actually worth zero points and were nothing but obstacles. Eventually, Ochaco Uraraka ran afoul of a massive zero-point robot.
Regardless of the danger, Izuku charged in and saved Ochace by hitting the robot with a full-strength smash attack. Izuku wound up with a terrible score, but the teachers were so impressed with his selfless heroism that Izuku was accepted into U.A. anyway.
8 When Izuku Smashed A Building Apart To Help Ochaco
It wasn’t long before Izuku aided Ochacao once again with a smash attack. Another early battle in My Hero Academia pitted Class 1-A’s students against one another in 2-vs-2 battles and Izuku and Ochaco had to invade a building and steal the “bomb” guarded by Katsuki Bakugo and the runner hero Tenya Iida.
Izuku couldn’t easily defeat Bakugo on his own and Ochaco had no angle for defeating Tenya. So, Izuku performed a vertical smash attack to break up the building and Ochaco used the debris and chaos to turn the tables and steal the bomb. Izuku’s sudden smash attack changed the course of the entire battle.
7 When Izuku Had A 1,000,000-Point Headband
During the U.A. Sports Festival, Izuku stole the spotlight when he ended up with a 1,000,000-point headband for the cavalry battle sequence, and naturally, the entire stadium had its eyes on him. Izuku was worth far more points than anyone else, meaning he was a huge target.
Despite the danger, Ochaco loyally joined Izuku’s team and the inventor Mei Hatsume also joined so people would see Izuku’s team using Mei’s inventions. Then Fumikage Tokoyami joined and Izuku’s attention-grabbing team was finally complete.
6 When Izuku Lectured Shoto During Their Fight
Izuku had to face the mighty Shoto Todoroki in the second round of the Sports Festival’s tournament; this was a legendary battle in My Hero Academia for more than one reason. Izuku’s smash attacks demolished Shoto’s ice many times, but Izuku wanted more than that.
Izuku delivered a passionate lecture to Shoto about the merits of using one’s own full strength; Shoto actually listened and started using his fire. This also impressed Endeavor, who was watching and wanted to see his son using his fire-based abilities.
5 When Izuku Defeated Muscular
Only Kota Izumi was around to see this, but Izuku’s incredible battle against the villainous Muscular was the highlight of the entire Forest Training Story Arc. Muscular was threatening to kill the innocent Kota until Izuku arrived and the fight was on.
Izuku dazzled viewers with his incredible courage and resolve in the face of such a threat and he unleashed a 1,000,000% smash to get the job done. This left a lasting impression on Kota, who resolved to believe in Pro Heroes once again.
4 When Izuku Defeated Overhaul
During the Shie Hassaikai Raid Story Arc, many Pro Heroes took the fight to the mighty Overhaul and his minions, but no one could truly save the day but Izuku himself. Mirio Togata went first and fought Overhaul until his quirk was lost. So, it fell to Izuku to save Eri and win the day.
Izuku’s power was pushed to the next level when the young Eri took a risk and used her Rewind Quirk to heal Izuku repeatedly. This allowed Izuku to use the full measure of One For All at last and deliver the knockout blow to defeat Overhaul.
3 When Izuku Helped Bakugo Defeat All Might
At one point, the students had to fight their own teachers in 2-vs-1 battles and a variety of students took turns standing in the spotlight, including unlikely heroes such as Minoru Mineta and Tsuyu Asui. The final match demanded that Izuku fight alongside Bakugo against All Might himself.
Everyone was watching as Izuku fought desperately against All Might and in the end, the stubborn Bakugo agreed to Izuku’s plan to achieve victory. Izuku took command of the fight and helped Bakugo make it to the goal and everyone cheered Izuku on.
2 When The Blackwhip Quirk Manifested
During the Joint Training Story Arc, Classes 1-A and 1-B were pitted against one another in team-oriented battles and the final battle saw Izuku teamed up with Ochaco, Mina Ashido, and Minoru Mineta against Class 1-B’s team and Hitoshi Shinso as well.
Izuku stole the spotlight when the Blackwhip Quirk emerged from One For All and went out of control, and Aizawa and Vlad King almost stopped the match. Fortunately, Ochaco and Shinso helped Izuku get Blackwhip back under control and the match resumed.
1 When Izuku Needed To Return To U.A. To Rest
Later in the My Hero Academia manga, Izuku continued to steal the spotlight, such as when he returned to U.A.’s campus after battling Lady Nagant and other villains. By then, Izuku was injured and worn out, but the crowd of civilians wouldn’t let him enter U.A. Everyone was concerned that Izuku would draw all the villains to the school, which was being used as a shelter.
During this scene, everything was all about Izuku, and the spotlight shone harshly on him. Then he shared the spotlight when Ochaco got a megaphone and delivered a short speech, urging the people to help Izuku rather than turn him away.
