Ryan Reynolds has revealed when Deadpool will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Almost.
On the web-series Kid Gloves, Reynolds was asked by the kid interviewers what film will introduce the Merc with a Mouth to the MCU. Reynolds gave an answer, but the entirety of it was bleeped out while an image of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige popped up behind Reynolds to glower at him for giving away company secrets. Reynolds then asked the girls not to share what he told them with anyone.
Ever since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox and the House of Mouse was able to reclaim film rights to its stable of X-Men characters, fans have wondered if and when Deadpool would join the MCU. Recently, eagle-eyed moviegoers thought they spotted an image of Deadpool tucked away in a poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Reynolds has denied that he has a role in the movie, but considering actor Andrew Garfield made similar statements about appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, some fans aren’t willing to take Reynolds at his word.
Both Feige and former Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed a third Deadpool movie is in development and that it will be both in the continuity of the MCU and rated R like its predecessors. Recently, it was revealed that Shawn Levy, who directed Reynolds in Free Guy and The Adam Project, would helm the film. Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Logelin, creators of Fox’s animated sitcom The Great North, have already been announced as the screenwriters for Deadpool 3.
With the long-awaited film progressing, Reynolds recently turned to audiences to push for a major inclusion in Deadpool 3. The actor asked fans to campaign to Feige and Marvel Studios to have X-Men star Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in the upcoming film– a role Jackman has repeatedly said he is finished with. Reynolds stated, “I say write to Kevin Feige, care of Marvel Cinematic Universe at whatever Buena Vista Way. I don’t know where it is, but yeah, that would be nice. That would be a dream. That would be dream come true.”
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 went on to become the two highest-grossing films in Fox’s X-Men franchise, grossing a worldwide total of $785 million and $782.6 million, respectively. This followed years of doubts concerning the appeal of the comic book character, which were cast aside after leaked test footage proved a demand for Reynold’s portrayal of the antihero existed.
Deadpool 3 does not yet have a release date.
