5 My Hero Academia Class 1-A Students Who Will Stay Sidekicks (& 5 Who Won’t)

Being a hero in My Hero Academia is a tough job. Not only do they risk their lives on almost a daily basis, but if they want to make a lot of money, they have to maintain a certain level of popularity. There are several different factors that will determine how popular a hero gets from their Quirk to their personality.

However, one of the most important ways for a hero to be successful is if they are able to have their own agencies, which is a lot harder than most people might think. When it comes to the students of Class 1-A, there are several of them who definitely have the capability to strike out on their own, but some members of the class are far more likely to be eternal sidekicks.

10 Won’t Stay A Sidekick: Yaoyorozu Will Remain On The Top

As the top of the class and a recommended student, Yaoyorozu has a lot of potential as a future hero. On top of that, her Quirk is incredibly powerful and will only get even more powerful the more she learns how to use it. Yaoyorozu has had some self-esteem issues in the past, but she’s already becoming more confident as the series progresses. By the time she debuts as a hero, she’ll most likely be one of the strongest ones out there.

9 Will Stay A Sidekick: Mineta Lacks Motivation

Minoru Mineta and Deku (My Hero Academia)

Not only is Mineta one of the weakest members of the class strength-wise, but he also has the weakest reasons for being a hero. While other characters want to protect people Mineta just wants to get a lot of women to like him. With motivation like that, he’s unlikely to push himself to be the best like other students. On top of that, his Quirk may be powerful in certain situations, but its best use will be to assist other heroes. With a Quirk like that, he is better off as a sidekick.

8 Won’t Stay A Sidekick: Midoriya Is The World’s Greatest Hero

Besides the fact that Midoriya outright states that My Hero Academia is the story of how he became the world’s greatest hero, he also has all the makings of being a top pro hero like All Might. His Quirk is incredibly flashy and powerful, which will bring him a lot of positive attention.

Not to mention, his ability to use the past One For All users’ Quicks will make him stand out even more. However, Midoriya’s Quirk isn’t the only thing that makes him special. His pure-hearted nature and need to risk it all to save people will make people want to follow him. As the next symbol of peace, it’s unlikely he’ll stay a sidekick for very long.

7 Will Stay A Sidekick: Sero Is Best Suited For Underground Or Rescue Work

Sero shows a lot of promise, and it’s likely he will become an incredibly strong hero. However, his Quirk tape will only take him so far, especially since it is far better suited to assisting other heroes. A Quirk like his is perfect for rescue operations or even capturing villains as Aizawa does. It may even be wise for him to choose the path of an underground hero rather than taking the path of a daytime hero like Endeavor or All Might. Sero will definitely be a great hero one day, but it’s unlikely he’ll ever be more than a sidekick.

6 Won’t Stay A Sidekick: Todoroki Is In A Hero Family

Todoroki doesn’t seem like the type to use his father’s popularity for his own benefit, but the fact of the matter is he benefits from his father’s status as the number 2 hero whether he likes it or not. He was able to get into UA by recommendation and he interned with a top agency because his father was running it. That doesn’t mean Todoroki doesn’t have the ability to become a hero without his father’s help. He is top of the class and has an incredibly powerful Quirk. He may struggle socially, but he does well under pressure and takes charge when he needs to. Todoroki has all the makings of a top hero, but having a father who is the number 2 certainly doesn’t hurt his prospects.

5 Will Stay A Sidekick: Hagakure Should Be A Stealth Hero

Toru Hagakure from Class 1-A in My Hero Academia

It’s already hard enough to get noticed in hero society, but it’s even harder when the person trying to get noticed is invisible. While Hagakure’s Quirk is incredibly useful, and she’s been working hard to make it more powerful, her skills are lacking in terms of combat.

Plus, it could actually be really dangerous for her to be on the frontlines because other heroes may struggle to find her if she’s ever injured. While her Quirk isn’t suited for combat, it would be incredibly useful for stealth situations and assisting underground heroes. Based on her skills and the fact that her Quick makes it difficult for her to be noticed, Hagakure will likely stay a sidekick forever.

4 Won’t Stay A Sidekick: Uraraka Will Be A Top Female Pro

Uraraka is a hard worker who knows her Quirk and herself incredibly well. She recognized her weaknesses after her fight with Bakugou and worked to change them by interning with the combat hero Gunhead. She’s become incredibly skilled in terms of combat, and her Quirk has a ton of potential for both rescuing and fighting. On top of that, Uraraka is incredibly sweet and kind, which will endear her to the public just like Midoriya. She may not be the smartest or the strongest hero student in Class 1-A, but she certainly isn’t the type to just give up and stay a sidekick forever.

3 Will Stay A Sidekick: Koda Is Too Quiet

Hagakura may be invisible but even she is more noticeable than Koda is. Not only does he refrain from talking but he usually doesn’t like to be the center of attention, which would make being a popular hero difficult. Then again, it’s unlikely that Koda would even want to be a top hero considering how introverted he is. When it comes to his Quirk, it’s definitely more suited for rescue, reconnaissance, and communication, so being a sidekick for a popular hero fits him better than being a popular hero himself.

2 Won’t Stay A Sidekick: Bakugo Refuses To Be Anything But Number 1

As the self-proclaimed future number 1 hero, Bakugo probably sees the idea of being someone else’s sidekick as an insult to his abilities. He may intern with top heroes, but he makes it very clear that he sees them as competition rather than potential employers. His personality may give him trouble at first but his determination to win makes it very easy for others to root for him. On top of that, he has an incredibly powerful and versatile Quirk. Even if Bakugo wasn’t one of the top students with a powerful Quirk, it’s likely that he would still become one of the best heroes simply because he refuses to be anything but the best.

1 Will Stay A Sidekick: Sato Is An Average Hero

Sato's Sugar Rush

With a strength-based Quirk, Sato has the potential to be incredibly powerful. However, he tends to get lost in the background when fighting beside his fellow classmates. He falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to intelligence, strength, and personality, which actually hurts him in the long run. As an average everyday hero, Sato will most likely find it difficult to branch out. Someone with his abilities is better off surrounding themselves with popular heroes rather than trying to be a popular hero themself.
