Since the Arrowverse features dozens of characters, the fandom has come up with too many pairings to keep count in the last 10 years. Some of them are truly bizarre and almost impossible to find, but others, the most popular ones, make perfect sense when one thinks about them.
Not all the Arrowverse’s fan-favorite couples exist inside the series. In fact, even though some of them were blessed with being canon, others were cut short too soon, and others, way less lucky, only live in the imaginations of fans. Of course, this doesn’t stop the fans from shipping them and enjoying the many fan works dedicated to these couples.
10 Lauriver Is All About What Could’ve Been
When they were younger, Oliver cheated on Laurel with her sister, Sara. Unfortunately, during one of their affairs, he and Sara sank with the Queen’s Gambit, making it impossible for Laurel to process her emotions about this situation. Even though she thought she hated Oliver, when he returned to Starling City, they ended up on a love triangle together with Tommy Merlyn, Oliver’s best friend.
Due to the undeniable chemistry between both characters, many fans expected Oliver and Laurel to be endgame. In a way, it made perfect sense that Ollie went full circle with the woman he hurt the most. However, things only got more and more complicated between them as the seasons went by, leaving no space for love between Oliver and Laurel in Arrow.
9 ColdWave Proves Opposites Attract
Originally villains on The Flash, Leonard “Captain Cold” Snart and Mick “Heat Wave” Rory redeemed themselves as heroes in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, armed only with scientifically enhanced guns. Although they were always bickering, Snart and Rory shared a strong loyalty that can only be found among thieves until the former sacrificed himself for the Legends.
Who doesn’t love a best-friends-to-lovers arc among two emotionally stunted partners? Even though they were always rough around the edges, Captain Cold and Heat Wave share many emotional moments that lead the fandom to think they could be a couple. Especially because Wentworth Miller always thought of his Captain Cold as an LGBTQ+ character.
8 Karamel Was Almost Canon
The second season of Supergirl welcomed a new character, Prince Mon-El, who arrived on Earth after surviving the destruction of his planet, Daxam, just like the Maiden of Might did. Although he was originally pedantic and spoiled, as Kara helped him adjust to Earth, Mon-El changed and the two aliens fell in love.
According to many Supergirl fans, Kara and Mon-El just made sense. Not only were they the only survivors of their respective planets, but since Daxam and Krypton were sworn enemies, they were also star-crossed lovers. Regardless, their relationship didn’t survive long. After the atmosphere was filled with lead, very poisonous for Daxamites, Mon-El left Earth. He returned seasons later, but only as a guest character
7 Many Fans Were Rooting For Snowbarry
When The Flash first began, Iris West was introduced as Barry’s sort-of-adoptive sister, and she was in a serious relationship with Eddie Thawne. Given this, there were a lot of theories about who would be the hero’s love interest. Since Caitlin Snow — a very single woman — and Barry had a very close friendship, many fans were rooting for them to become something more.
Ultimately, Caitlin and Barry became way closer, but in a more fraternal manner. Besides, Barry and Iris became one of the strongest couples in the Arrowverse. It has been almost seven years since Barry and Iris kissed for the first time, but many fans of the Scarlet Speedster still think Snowbarry was a missed opportunity on the show.
6 Olicity Divided The Arrow Fandom
In need of a tech-savvy person to help him with his vigilante activities, Oliver Queen kept asking for favors of Felicity Smoak, who worked at the I.T. Department of Queen Consolidated. Although the girl had her reservations about the heir, eventually she joined as an official member of Team Arrow. Unavoidably, after many adventures together, they fell in love, which split the fandom.
While many fans believed Felicity was too self-righteous and self-involved for her own good, many others considered Felicity had proven she was the perfect woman for Oliver through her unconditional support for him. In the end, they shared one of the biggest love stories on the Arrowverse, together even in the afterlife.
5 Nobody Wanted To See Sanvers Part Ways
Maggie Sawyer arrived in the second season of Supergirl as the police detective assigned to trying to find the culprit behind the assassination attempt on President Olivia Marsdin. At first, Supergirl’s sister Alex was annoyed at Maggie’s disdain for her authority, but since they shared a common goal, a friendship soon blossom. After that, they became one of the first lesbian relationships in the Arrowverse.
Sadly, Floriana Lima, who played Maggie, left the show to star on The Punisher, so Alex and Maggie broke up after realizing they had very different desires for their futures. Sometime later, Alex found true love with Kelly Olsen. However, their chemistry wasn’t as great, so fans are still upset about Sanvers’ fate. According to many, their break-up is still one of the biggest mistakes of Supergirl.
4 Wildmoore Recently Became A Reality
A year ago, Ryan Wilder took on the Batwoman mantle after Kate Kane disappeared. Since Sophie Moore started on Batwoman as Kate Kane’s ex-girlfriend and primary love interest, fans soon started shipping her with Ryan. Luckily for them, they’re now canon.
After a whole year in a “will they, won’t they?” kind of situation, Sophie Moore and Ryan Wilder finally shared a “Shut up” kiss during “Meet Your Maker,” the ninth episode of the third season of Batwoman. Since both Sophie and Ryan are fascinating and complex characters, the fans are very excited to see where their romance is going.
3 Avalance Is Goals
Sara Lance and Ava Sharpe were rivals during the third season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow until Ava joined the Waverider Crew. In the beginning, Ava and Sara disagreed a lot, especially due to Sara’s unorthodox methods, but things changed. Their enemies-to-lovers arc has been one of the wildest rides of the Arrowverse.
Sara and Ava’s relationship hasn’t stopped evolving since it blossomed. After falling in love, they got engaged and then married. But that’s not it. In the seventh season finale, Sara announced she’s pregnant, which is a new milestone for the couple. Even though they’re a clone from the future and a resurrected woman traveling through time, people relate to their wholesome love story.
2 Westallen Is Canon No Matter What
In the beginning, it was impossible to tell if Barry and Iris would be together. While the hero was pining for the girl, Iris was already in a committed relationship, which had Barry seeking love in other places. However, many were rooting for them, not only because they’re canon in the comics, but because they’re clearly meant for each other.
In the comics and the series, Iris and Barry are simply destined to be together. Their love can handle any obstacle and it’s usually the wind underneath The Flash’s wings. Fans know Barry wouldn’t be who he is without Iris, which is why many celebrate every milestone of their relationship.
1 People Either Love Or Hate Supercorp
Lena Luthor was introduced to Supergirl in the second season as a guest character, but her connection to Kara Danvers was so appealing to the fans that she was soon promoted to a regular. Granted, their bond was never explicitly romantic, but they were best friends. However, their relationship often felt like a love affair full of drama, betrayal, and undeniable chemistry between them.
The Kara/Lena pairing is the most popular ship in the Arrowverse. Granted, they have way too many detractors, but they also have one of the biggest fanbases across the internet. For instance, there are around 20,000 Supercorp fanfiction works only on Archive Of Our Own. Sadly, Supercorp wasn’t given a chance, but most fans believe what these two women had was bigger than any other romance on the Arrowverse.
