Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series, Andor, has launched its official Twitter account.
Shared by Big Screen Leaks, the upcoming Disney+ series seemingly launched what will be its official Twitter account for when the series begins to promote itself on social media, though the account was officially made in February 2021 and is currently private.
This development comes just a week before Disney Investor Day 2022, which is scheduled for March 9. Season 1 of Andor has yet to air on Disney+ and has not received an official release date, though the upcoming series has reportedly already been renewed for a second season which is set to start filming in fall 2022, something that has not been officially confirmed. Disney did, however, confirm the release window for the first season of its Star Wars spinoff series, revealing that Andor would premiere on Disney+ during Q4 of 2022, meaning that the series will air either in October or December.
Series star Diego Luna, who will reprise his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story role as Rebel spy Cassian Andor, confirmed that filming on Season 1 had officially wrapped in September 2021 following significant production delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“You’ll definitely see familiar faces,” said Luna. “I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending.” Luna also described the making of Andor as “literally a transformation for me. It’s something that I really wanted to do and that I thought I was not going to be able to do. I’m more than happy.”
The series, which will focus on the backstory of Rebel spy Cassian Andor and flesh out the early days of the Rebel Alliance, serves as a prequel to Lucasfilm’s Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which premiered in 2016. The first season will consist of 12-episodes with Luna reprising his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor. Actors Forest Whitaker and Genevieve O’Reilly are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma for the series. The cast also includes Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Robert Emms, though the details surrounding their respective roles are currently unknown.
Andor will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
