Peacemaker Fan Art Reinvents One Major Character as DC’s Classic Joker

Peacemaker fan art reimagines one of the show’s major characters as a classic DC villain.

Drawn by Dublin-based graphic designer Darragh Douglas, the art depicts actor Christopher Heyerdahl, who portrayed Locke on HBO Max’s Peacemaker series, as the Joker. “After [Peacemaker] I’m convinced [Heyerdahl] would make an incredible Joker,” Douglas wrote in the caption.

Heyerdahl portrayed the ruthless marksman Caspar Locke in the series, who took over as the police captain in Peacemaker under orders from Amanda Waller to assist in Project Butterfly. However, he and the rest of the Evergreen Police Department were taken over by the Butterflies after the Butterfly-controlled Detective Sophie Song infiltrated the station with her army in the sixth episode. As for a possible Joker portrayal, series creator James Gunn did reveal that Heyerdahl’s improvisation as Locke in Episode 6, “Murn After Reading” caused a background extra to completely lose his composure.

Peacemaker has made several off-color claims about various DC superheroes and the Season 1 finale shocked fans of the DC Extended Universe with cameos from four Justice League members: Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash and Aquaman. Gunn has said that DC and HBO Max let him go “hog wild” for Peacemaker, allowing for John Cena’s Christopher Smith/Peacemaker to make outlandish claims about the DC heroes throughout the series.

However, in Episode 4, “The Choad Less Travelled,” Peacemaker calls Batman “a p—y,” which was apparently the only line that DC Films took issue with, something that Gunn said “surprised” him. “I’m like, ‘But he talks about all these other terrible things about all these other superheroes that are much worse than calling Batman a p—y,” he said. “I don’t know. You’d have to ask them. I don’t know why him calling Batman a p—y is potentially more offensive than him saying Superman [has a poop fetish]. I don’t understand why one was brought up and one wasn’t.”

Peacemaker picks up directly after the events of The Suicide Squad and sees Cena’s Christopher Smith drafted into an off-the-books mission known as Project Butterfly. He is joined by ARGUS agents Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) and Leota Abedayo (Danielle Brooks), as well as Adrian Chase/Vigilante (Freddie Stroma). Peacemaker‘s Season 1 finale saw Chris and the ARGUS agents complete their Project Butterfly mission and, following its premiere, became the best-performing episode for an HBO Max original series with the largest single-day performance on the streaming service.

Peacemaker has since been renewed for a second season and Season 1 is now streaming on HBO Max.
