Zoë Kravitz has played a diverse set of characters during her time in the entertainment industry, but bringing Selina Kyle back to the big screen could be a game changer for the performer’s career. It seems that each role has been building to this moment for the actor to breath life into such an iconic role, but before she steals fans hearts in The Batman, let’s look back on her career highlights.
Dope – Nakia
2015’s Dope is a fun independent film that follows Shameik Moore, before he took on the Spider-Man mantle, as a teenager from Inglewood California named Malcolm. What makes this movie shine is the great chemistry between the cast, most notably the relationship between Moore and Kravitz’s character, Nakia. The budding romance between the two and its twists and turns drive an important theme in the coming-of-age film.
Dope is available to rent on Prime Video.
Mad Max: Fury Road – Toast, The Knowing
One of the reasons that Mad Max: Fury Road struck such a chord with audiences is that every aspect of the film was working overtime. Since so much of the narrative is driven by visuals, the actors had to rely on their physicality to bring the characters to life. Kravitz’s performance is a perfect example, as Toast stuck out from Immortan Joe’s other wives simply in the way she held herself.
Fans can catch Kravitz in Fury Road on HBOMax.
Fantastic Beasts: Leta Lestrange
Kravitz was a stand out in the first two Fantastic Beasts films as Leta Lestrange. The pureblood Slytherin was a tragic figure in the series and added an uneasy complexity to the story. Kravitz was also perfectly cast in the role and fit easily into the Wizarding World. Leta and Thesus’ relationship is one of the strongest in the Fantastic Beasts films, despite their limited screen time together.
Fans can watch Kravitz in the first two Fantastic Beasts on HBOMax and the third coming soon to theaters.
Big Little Lies – Bonnie
Bonnie is the sleeper hit of the Monterey Five. Kravitz created a multi-dimensional character that brings a lot to the table in terms of tension and mystery for the series. During the first season, she is considered an underlying threat but is ultimately just misunderstood. After the events of the first season, the show takes the opportunity to really flesh out Bonnie’s backstory and gives her more opportunity to shine.
The two-season series is available to stream on HBOMax, along with other HBO dramas like The Gilded Age.
High Fidelity – Robyn “Rob”
A television remake of the 2000 film of the same name, this Hulu Original deserved a shot at a second season. Kravtiz plays Rob, a record store owner living in Brooklyn that has a messy love life. Kravitz brings a dedication to the project that roots it in a witty and cynical tone by utilizing direct-to-camera deliveries. The show also features a solid soundtrack that permeates every episode.
Kimi – Angela Childs
Stephen Soderberg’s latest film takes place during the Covid pandemic and utilizes that experience of isolation intently. While that may turn off some viewers, the prolific director’s unique take on the period is worth the shot. Kimi follows Angela Childs a work from home data stream monitor who stumbles upon a crime.
Kravitz’s performance carries the film and can be found on HBOMax.
