Legends of Tomorrow EP Teases Booster Gold’s Comics-Accurate Costume

Should DC’s Legends of Tomorrow be renewed, fans will finally get to see Donald Faison wear Booster Gold’s official Arrowverse uniform.

Executive producer Phil Klemmer, speaking to ComicBook.com, noted how long people have wanted to see Booster Gold cameo on Legends of Tomorrow, given the DC hero’s own time traveler status. “His name has come up I feel like every single season, as far as back as I can remember,” Klemmer revealed. “And it seems maybe the one time that we didn’t expect him, was the one time he landed in our laps. I’m forever grateful for DC and for [DC’s creative director for TV] Kim Roberto, who is covering our show. We were not expecting it. I don’t know how those things work. I don’t know what goes on. DC is a fancy, shiny building; I feel guilty even stepping into the fancy lobby. So I don’t know what happens in there. I just know that someone in there, we owe a giant fruit basket.”

Speculation that Faison would play Booster in the Season 7 finale was confirmed by his introduction, playing World War I-era golf with a star insignia golf ball reminiscent of Booster Gold’s costume colors. His official title wasn’t uttered until the finale’s cliffhanger, which Klemmer described as “one reason to hold back on the suit,” he continued. “The other was logistics. It takes forever to design such a costume, and we were in the final Season 7 sprint when Donald joined the show. Finally, if and when Booster does get his costume in Season 8, it seems worthy of an entire story or perhaps stories.”

Legends of Tomorrow‘s finale introduced its Booster Gold as Mike — presumably short for Michael Jon Carter, Booster’s real name — a time fixer responsible for preventing anyone from saving time travel founder Dr. Gwyn Davis’ romantic interest Alun Thomas in 1916. However, Mike soon realizes that he was given this job as a joke, since preventing Alun’s death risked paradoxically preventing the existence of time travel altogether. While the finale teased Mike and the Legends becoming reluctant allies, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s future currently remains ambiguous, as The CW hasn’t officially renewed it yet for an eighth season.

Introduced in 1986’s Booster Gold #1, Booster Gold is a 25th-century citizen who traveled back in time with his robot companion Skeets using a stolen power suit to be a modern-day superhero. Though often obsessed with using his status for notoriety and endorsements, Gold is perhaps best known for his endearing friendship with former Blue Beetle Ted Kord. Eric Martsolf previously played a live-action Booster Gold on Smallville, while Tom Everett Scott and Billy West voiced Booster and Skeets respectively in Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs on The CW.
