After over a thousand episodes about Boruto’s father, Naruto, the Boruto anime features Boruto as the protagonist. Boruto is both mischievous and friendly — like his father. Despite his life as the son of one of the strongest ninjas, Boruto’s life is still filled with conflicts and enemies.
Even though Boruto can be serious, there are still many lighthearted moments. As a result, Boruto is filled with both drama and fun. However, there are downsides to watching Boruto — and a lot of them have to do with the reigning popularity of Naruto.
10 Boruto Is Best After Watching The First Naruto Series
Even though Boruto has a new protagonist, it is still deeply connected to Naruto and Naruto Shippuden; these series set the stage for Boruto. As a result, it is helpful to watch these series before Boruto. Since the older series feature the childhood of Naruto and his friends, they set the groundwork for the new series. For example, Naruto Shippuden explains how Naruto fell in love with Hinata and married her.
9 Boruto Started Out In The Future
In Boruto, the titular protagonist is a young student who has already mastered his father’s infamous Shadow Clone Jutsu. In other words, between Naruto Shippuden and Boruto, many important moments are missed.
Boruto does recount some moments in flashbacks, like the ceremony for Naruto earning the title of Hokage, but these flashbacks only show part of Naruto’s past. For example, Boruto doesn’t reveal what Naruto was like when he realized that he would be a father to Boruto and his little sister.
8 Boruto Doesn’t Appreciate His Father
After Naruto spent years protecting and helping Hidden Leaf Village, he gained the title of Hokage, which was his dream. Unfortunately, the realization of his goal ended up separating him from his children. Once Naruto was Hokage, he was almost constantly busy. This business made Boruto less respectful of his exhausted father. It took the endangerment of Hidden Leaf Village to reveal Naruto’s abilities to his son.
7 Kawaki Is Introduced Later In Boruto
When the first episode of Boruto begins, it shows the protagonist Boruto as an older ninja fighting someone. Since it happens in the future, the battle still hadn’t actually happened, but this moment seemed to be very important. Despite the fact that this moment starts the entire new series in the Naruto franchise, Boruto’s enemy isn’t shown right away. It takes many episodes for Kawaki to appear in Boruto.
6 Majors Characters May Die
Since Boruto is connected to the Naruto series, many of the characters have been in hundreds of episodes. However, even though they survived the battles and the missions from Naruto, they may not survive Boruto. One character that was sacrificed in Boruto was Kurama — Naruto’s longest companion. During Naruto Shippuden, Naruto had become extremely close to Kurama because he had to use his power for many battles. In Boruto, Kurama sacrificed himself in his last battle as Naruto’s partner.
5 Boruto Cheats In The Chunin Exam
Even though Boruto can be friendly, he still possesses faults. Not only does Boruto not have a specific goal, but he has also gone so far as to act immorally to his village and friends.
When Boruto and his friends go to the Chunin exam, Boruto actually cheats when he is fighting one of his friends. By using a machine, Boruto is able to fight with skills that are easier because of the machine.
4 Some Characters Didn’t Survive To See This Future
After conflicts and wars, it isn’t surprising that there were some characters that didn’t make it into Boruto’s lifetime. Some of these characters were friends or allies of Naruto. Naruto’s sensei, Jiraiya, didn’t get to meet Boruto and Himawari. Naruto had looked up to Jiraiya and was devastated because of the loss of his sensei. Many characters would have loved to see the world Naruto protected as the Hokage. After all, many of his allies died protecting Hidden Leaf Village.
3 Sasuke Is Disconnected From His Family
Even though Sasuke continued being friends with Naruto, he was still distant from Hidden Leaf Village. Sasuke became a father after marrying Sakura, but he didn’t see his daughter very often until she started out as a Genin. Despite the fact that his friends and family lived in Hidden Leaf Village, Sasuke remained distant. This absence is connected to Sasuke’s betrayal in Naruto Shippuden, but the Seventh Hokage made sure to inform his friend that he could go back to living in the village with his family.
2 Boruto Starts With A Battle Between Two Older Characters
While Boruto is connected to both the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, the series featuring the next generation doesn’t start out with Naruto.
Instead, Boruto starts out with two ninjas who have never been shown before. Fans later discover that the ninjas are Boruto and Kawaki, but the first moment in Boruto is a battle without any context and the anime has yet to feature that particular scene after hundreds of episodes.
1 Boruto Isn’t As Goal-Oriented As His Father
During the beginning of Boruto, it becomes obvious that Boruto isn’t as driven as Naruto was as a child. When Naruto was Boruto’s age, Naruto was obsessed with one dream: Hokage. Throughout the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Naruto constantly mentioned that he dreamed about being the Hokage. However, Boruto isn’t as driven — especially when it comes to his career. When he was younger, Boruto didn’t even know if he wanted to be a ninja.
