When compared to the specific uses allowed by Kurapika’s chains, it becomes abundantly clear just how versatile Bungee Gum is. The fact that Hisoka poses the Phantom Troupe to be as much of a threat as Kurapika and his vengeful chains showcases how impressive Bungee Gum’s versatility is.
6 Transmutation Is The Most Powerful Nen Type
There is debate among fans regarding the nen power types in Hunter x Hunter. Though the power system created by Yoshihiro Togashi in HxH is celebrated by most, its complexity makes it difficult to scale.

Only the trained eye is able to see nen. Gon and Killua learn this fact the hard way during Hunter x Hunter’s Heaven’s Arena Arc. After training their eyes under Wing’s tutelage and subsequently controlling their own aura, Gon gets the chance to test his new skills against Hisoka.
This battle proves that being able to see nen is only the first step in mastering the nen power system. Because of Hisoka’s flexible aura and strategic misdirection, Gon struggles to track the clown’s elastic nen. The moment the clown brings Bungee Gum into the fight, Gon loses every inch of the advantage he gained by landing his enhanced punch.
4 Bungee Gum Was Able To Bring Hisoka Back To Life
Though it hasn’t made it into the Hunter x Hunter anime yet, the battle between Hisoka and Chrollo Lucilfer is one of the greatest fights in HxH history. After collecting a list of nen abilities specifically chosen to counter Hisoka, Chrollo met his peer in the Heaven’s Arena and managed to defeat him.
While there is a case to be made about Chrollo taking advantage of the setting and prep time, Hisoka’s dead body at the end of the fight couldn’t have much to say about it — that is, until he resurrected himself with the power of his Bungee Gum nen ability.

On top of being able to mimic the properties of both rubber and gum, Bungee Gum also serves Hisoka as fully functional prosthetic limbs. During his battle with Chrollo, Hisoka used Bungee Gum to replicate his limbs after refusing Machi’s help. As Hunter x Hunter progresses, Hisoka uses his nen prosthetics without any signs of weakness. In fact, considering the material that his new arm is made of, it may even be more powerful than his natural limbs.
2 Hisoka Combines Sound Strategy With A Versatile Hatsu
While there are plenty of good arguments to be made about the potency of other nen abilities, Bungee Gum has the advantage of being linked to the brilliant mind of Hisoka Morow. The hedonistic clown is blessed with a powerful aura and ranks amongst the top tier of the Phantom Troupe in terms of raw strength, but these traits are not even his best.
Hisoka’s strength lies in his taste for combat and strategy. While many shame him for drawing out his battles, this patience has given him the chance to experience battle from his backfoot. The only time Hisoka’s mind was bested in canon was by Chrollo Lucilfer who was forced to amass a collection of specific nen abilities to counter Hisoka.
1 Bungee Gum Is Good On Offense & Great On Defense
Bungee Gum is one of the most powerful offensive tools in Hisoka’s arsenal. Whether he is attaching it directly to his foes or setting traps with his lethal playing cards, the elastic nen is able to enhance the strength of any attack.
Bungee Gum’s offensive capabilities are impressive, but its defensive potency is even more incredible. Hisoka’s nen ability has stopped a bevy of Gotoh’s coins and a dodgeball launched by Gon’s Jajanken. When taking into consideration the prosthetic limbs that Hisoka has made out of his nen and his manga Lazarus moment, the defensive capabilities of Bungee Gum seem nearly limitless.
