Amanda Waller has been making some powerful enemies throughout the Infinite Frontier era and her recent sins are finally catching up to her in the new crossover event “War for Earth-3.” After expanding Task Force X’s directive to include the reborn DC Multiverse, Waller targeted Earth-3, feeling the alternate universe needed her lethal brand of justice as she decided to usurp the Crime Syndicate of America with her own super-team, the Justice Squad. However, Waller’s mission on Earth-3 won’t be an easy one, with her and the Suicide Squad pursued by the Teen Titans, with young superheroes hungry for vengeance and ready to stop Waller once and for all.
This particular showdown has been one in the works for sometime, with Waller infiltrating Teen Titans Academy at the start of the Infinite Frontier era to kidnap new superhero student Bolt as Waller felt the Justice Squad needed its own speedster. This forced recruitment was thwarted thanks to the timely intervention of the mysterious Red X, with Waller’s sinister agenda eventually exposed to world, prompting her and her Suicide Squad to go into hiding while she accelerated her plans to conquer Earth-3. Waller’s descent into reckless obsession paralleled Rick Flag forming a Suicide Squad of his own, comprised of those who felt Waller had similarly gone too far, ready to bring down the megalomaniacal bureaucrat down for good.
With Waller moving forward with her plan to replace the Crime Syndicate with her own team, this comes as the Teen Titans believe that Waller was indeed successful in kidnapping Bolt to forcibly join her cause. Teen Titans Academy was recently leveled in a devastating attack, with Bolt missing in the aftermath. Though some of her classmates received text messages presumably sent by Bolt from a safe house in Brooklyn, the Titans are set to pursue Waller to Earth-3 under the suspicion that Bolt is now in Waller’s custody. This leads to Earth-3 becoming a battleground between two different iterations of the Suicide Squad, the Crime Syndicate and the Teen Titans for the fate of two worlds.
Bolt being used by Waller as a prominent part of her plan to take over Earth-3 was foreshadowed during Future State, with Bolt impersonating The Flash as part of a team secretly led by Waller while masquerading as the Justice League. The glimpse at this possible future similarly featured Peacemaker as part of a splinter faction of the Suicide Squad intent on stopping Waller’s plans on Earth-3, resulting in a bloody showdown. Though Waller’s plans during the Infinite Frontier era mirrored her path in Future State, Future State’s confrontation was one where Waller was already successful in taking down the Crime Syndicate and the Titans absent from the proceedings, suggesting “War for Earth-3” will go far differently for all parties involved than Future State.
Waller has been punching above her weight for some time and her growing list of enemies is finally set to catch up with her as she launches her master plan on Earth-3. However, more than simply being a showdown between different versions of the Suicide Squad, the Teen Titans’ presence is sure to tip the escalating scales into sheer super-powered chaos on level that not even Waller could have anticipated. The Titans have endured numerous attacks on their home that has left them reeling and their advanced academy leveled. With Bolt missing, the young heroes have officially had enough decide to go on the offensive, with Waller right in their crosshairs this time.
