Sega has been in the video game industry for almost as long as Nintendo, and has developed many interesting properties and franchises over time. When someone thinks of Sega, they typically think of their furry blue mascot Sonic the Hedgehog, but the company has so much more going for them – from Super Monkey Ball and even the Persona series (although Atlus develops those games).
Sega also has a deep presence in the anime industry, producing figures for several series such as Love Live, Re:Zero, Code Geass, and even Neon Genesis Evangelion. It’s a wonder to many fans that Sega hasn’t made an anime about their own properties despite having such a presence in the medium. There are exceptions, but Sega’s left most of their games untouched as far as adaptations go.
10 Shin Megami Tensei V Deserves A Narrative Upgrade
While Shin Megami Tensei V has cemented itself as the best-selling game in the series, it is severely lacking in the story department. Sega could take the opportunity to produce an anime adaptation to fulfill the story that this noteworthy entry deserves while also focusing on the world-building and characters.
9 Bayonetta Would Make An Intense Anime
Bayonetta and its successors are all now Nintendo exclusive properties, something that is still surprising to many fans considering the series’ mature content. Bayonetta is action-packed, with lots of button-mashing combos.
Bloody Fate is fine enough, but a proper adaptation could get to the heart of what makes Bayonetta compelling. The action and elaborate combo attacks would be fascinating to witness in an anime series, especially if handled properly with smooth and clean animation. Fans would be very excited to witness all of the world-building that an anime could offer.
8 Shining Resonance Refrain Would Bring More Dragons Into Anime
What makes Shining Resonance Refrain interesting is that the main character has an ancient dragon within herself that she learns to unleash at will as time goes on. The subject of dragons is surprisingly rare for anime, but would nonetheless be a thrill to see animated.
7 Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mix Would Finally Give Miku A Proper Anime
Hatsune Miku is one of the most popular Vocaloids out there. Though Hatsune Miku’s game doesn’t have a strong story to it, it still retains focus on Miku and her friends. It’d be exciting to see a proper anime platform for Hatsune Miku happen, which would have an added musical component.
6 Sakura Wars (2019) Would Give The Game’s Story A Second Chance
What’s interesting about Sakura Wars is that there is an anime for it, but most fans who have watched it would rather not talk about it.
The anime focused more on fan service, placing an emphasis on the harem side of the game, despite the fact there was a beautiful story to adapt. There should be an attempt at rebooting the anime, focusing on the story rather than on middling fan service.
5 Super Monkey Ball Could Give The Franchise The Story It Doesn’t Need But Deserves
The Super Monkey Ball games have a similar tone to the Donkey Kong Country games. As many fans have seen through Smash Bros. cinematic, a Donkey Kong movie or anime would also be stellar. Whether the anime is 3D or 2D, Super Monkey Ball has a lot of potential in its open-endedness while also having the benefit of a group of monkeys fighting monsters and collecting bananas.
4 Bayonetta 2 Outperforms The First
Bayonetta 2 does everything that the first one did but better. The story is much more over the top while retaining the pleasures of button-mashing gameplay. An anime that adapted Bayonetta 2 would be able to highlight everything that makes the series amazing while getting audiences excited for the upcoming Bayonetta 3 on the Nintendo Switch.
3 Shin Megami Tensei IV Would Get The Recognition It Deserves
Shin Megami Tensei IV is one of the best games on the 3DS system, and one of the greatest entries in its franchise. SMTIV tells a morbid story about humanity with some truly dark turns and multiple endings that increase its replayability. While an anime adaptation would likely need to choose a specific route, the possibility of OVAs mean that every ending could be animated – including the infamous White Ending.
2 Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) Would Surprise Fans With Its Absurdity
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) is one of the most amusing games that Sega has produced. Sega decided to try out a more narrative-focused game for their mascot, and the results were interesting if not entirely engaging.
An anime would also mitigate the game’s biggest problems: being the fact that Sonic 06 is an awful video game. An adaptation could get into the meat of story and play around with an otherwise well made setting relegated to one of the worst games Sega ever made.
1 Persona 5: Royal Would Make The Original Anime Even Better
An anime adaptation of Persona 5: Royal would give the anime a second chance in telling a more fulfilling and more personal story, while also playing out as a possible extended edition. Many fans consider P5: Royal the true version of P5 with the inclusion of Kasumi Yoshizawa and her character arc, so it’d be nice for those who haven’t played the game to see her story play out in an anime. What would even be better is if the new anime brings in even more bops from the game as well!
