With Halloween Ends nearing the end of production, the franchise’s new trilogy will soon come to a bloody close. Following the penultimate Halloween Kills, the movie will have a lot of questions to answer when it premieres this October. Perhaps the most pressing is the fate of its veteran final girl Laurie Strode. While fans would like to see her finally defeat Michael Myers and find some peace, there are signs that this may not be the ending Laurie is destined for.
Laurie Strode was first introduced to the horror world in the original Halloween, released in 1978. The iconic John Carpenter film saw Michael Myers terrorize Laurie and her friends in the small town of Haddonfield, killing them one by one before leaving Laurie the last woman standing. Using her smarts and bravery, Laurie is able to get the better of Michael, leading to his apprehension.
The film began what has become a twelve-film franchise, firmly engraining Laurie in the final girl hall of fame; she is one of the first and one of the longest-reigning final girls in slasher history. Her return to the franchise in 2018’s Halloween, a direct sequel to the original and the first in the new trilogy, marked forty years since Jamie Lee Curtis originated the role. However, Laurie’s legendary status does not mean she is safe come the release of the final installment.
Jamie Lee Curtis Has Hinted At Laurie’s Ending
The rumors that Laurie Strode may not survive Halloween Ends originated with Jamie Lee Curtis herself. In an interview with Total Film Magazine, Curtis was asked whether audiences would see Laurie again after the trilogy comes to its close. “I would say, given what I know about the next movie,” she replied, “I think it will be the last time that I will play her.” The somewhat vague reply could mean Laurie ends the film alive. However, fans took Curtis’ comments as a hint that Laurie will die, as she has in the franchise’s other sequels. Given Michael Myers’ frequent resurrections, it’s not wild to think that should they face-off, he will come out on top.
Curtis added more fuel to this fire via her Instagram, where she posted, “A bittersweet END for me on the Halloween movies…today my part in the film has been completed and with it the END for me of this trilogy.” These comments appear to confirm that this is Curtis’ last time playing Laurie, further driving rumors that there is a less-than-happy ending awaiting the final girl.
Fans Aren’t Confident That Laurie Will Survive Halloween Kills
There is no doubt that Halloween fans want Laurie to have a happy ending. After forty years of Michael Myers-induced terror, a life of peace would be very well deserved. However, many are convinced this is not meant to be. Fans are speculating that in the inevitable final battle between Laurie and Michael, Michael will overpower and kill Laurie. Other theories suggest that Laurie will sacrifice herself, which seems a likely action.
Laurie has stated that her aim is to kill Michael to protect others from his wrath. There is no doubt that the selfless and courageous Laurie Strode would sacrifice herself for the greater good or for her family. Whilst Michael brutally killed Laurie’s daughter Karen in Halloween Kills, her granddaughter Allyson is still at her side, determined to also kill Michael. If Allyson’s life was at risk, there is no doubt Laurie would sacrifice herself, with fans theorizing that this is Laurie’s most likely ending.
At this point, the rumors and the theories are all speculations; there is little confirmed information about the film’s plot, nor is there any promotional material to analyze — yet. However, as it stands, it seems many are convinced that Halloween Ends is not looking good for Laurie Strode. Whilst it may seem like a bold move to kill the franchise’s main character, Halloween has never shied away from providing fans with shocks. It is not out of the realm of possibility that come October, Michael Myers may finally kill Laurie Strode.
To see if Laurie Strode makes it out alive, Halloween Ends will arrive Oct. 14.
