Sony Pictures released a sizzle reel to highlight the home release of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Promising a release “packed with bonus features,” the clip shows behind-the-scenes stunt footage, interviews with the cast and crew and over 20 minutes of unused footage featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as multiversal Spider-Men. “To work with them is honestly the highlight of my career,” Tom Holland says. The reel goes on to highlight Easter eggs throughout the film and outtakes and bloopers before revealing a digital release date of March 22 and a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release date of April 12.
Since its release, No Way Home has received strong reviews and box office success, surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar as the third-highest-grossing film domestically. Much of the film’s hype and positive reception came from the much-anticipated union of three different Spider-Men across three different film franchises. Director Jon Watts discussed how he worked with Holland, Garfield and Maguire to nail down their different takes on playing Peter Parker. “We sat on folding chairs in a circle and went through the script together,” he explained. “I had talked to everyone separately, but to have everyone together to talk about the story, how the pieces fit together and what Spider-Man meant to them — that was exciting for me. We had the only three actors to ever play Spider-Man in a film, and each had been through so much, on and off-screen. It was like a Spider-Man therapy session.”
Screenwriters Eric Sommers and Chris McKenna said that they wrote and rewrote the scene where all three Peter Parkers meet “at least ten times,” taking into account notes from not only Watts and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, but also from the three Spider-Man actors themselves. “It took a lot of work by everyone — Kevin, Jon, Amy, all of us — to really just work out all that,” McKenna explained. “And then we brought in the actors and they then had all their own ideas. Making a movie like this is a big collaborative experience.”
What the future holds for the Spider-Men is unknown at this time. For Holland, another movie is in the early stages of development with Marvel and Sony, though it’s unclear when production will begin, as Holland plans to take a short acting hiatus. For Garfield, a contingent of fans (including Holland) have expressed interest in seeing him play the Web-Slinger again in a third Amazing Spider-Man movie and possibly even cross over with Sony’s Venom films. Holland also responded to the possibility of seeing the Spider-Men team up again, saying “Could it happen? Of course it could happen. We’ve done it once before. Will it happen? I don’t know.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home goes on sale digitally on March 22 and arrives on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on April 12.
