Arthur’s Aged-Up Series Finale Reduces Fans to Tears | CBR

The series finale of the beloved children’s cartoon Arthur left many fans in tears with an episode that gave audiences a peek into the character’s adult lives.

The conclusion of Season 25 of Arthur includes the episode “All Grown Up,” wherein the gang discovers a fortune-telling game in the library. Before Arthur learns what his future entails, the game shuts off, leaving the young aardvark disappointed. He leaves the venue with a book on drawing, which he initially intends to return, when he’s stopped by the animated version of Marc Brown, the series creator. Encouraged to keep the guide, the episode cuts to the future and reveals that Arthur grew up to be a graphic novelist. The finale was received positively by fans, many of whom were reduced to tears by the bitter-sweet conclusion.

Beyond the heartwarming ending, fans were taken aback by the small details used in the finale. Many are praising the episode for bringing back Michael Yarmush, who voiced Arthur for the show’s first five seasons before stepping down due to outgrowing the part. The actor reprises his role as the 28-year-old version of the titular character.

Others are pointing out how the finale mirror’s the series, as the graphic novel penned and illustrated by Arthur is titled “Arthur’s Eyes,” and tells the story of how he first came into possession of his iconic glasses. This is a direct reference to the series’ very first episode which uses the very same title to tell a similar tale.
