A new Marvel Comics character known as the Spider-Smasher is joining the fray within the pages of Miles Morales: Spider-Man later this year — but are they friend or foe?
Marvel debuted a first look at the Spider-Smasher in a promotional image illustrated by Skan. The art is meant to promote the upcoming 38th issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man, which comes from writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Christopher Allen and is due to hit comic shops in May. The House of Ideas teases that fans will have to read the issue if they want to know who exactly the Spider-Smasher is, and what it is they want with Miles.
While Marvel suggests that the Spider-Smasher could potentially be an ally to Miles, their codename and design certainly seem to paint them as a villain. The Spider-Smasher sports a red and black hooded cloak with gray mechanical armor, including a futuristic mask with multiple glowing “eyes,” some sort of energy weapon where their right arm should be, sharp pincers somewhat reminiscent of the golden legs on Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s “Iron Spider” suit and, last but not least, a chest plate bearing a red spider symbol. What’s more, the Spider-Smasher appears to be leaping away from a fiery explosion.
Written by Saladin Ahmed and illustrated by Christopher Allen, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #38 goes on sale in May 2022 from Marvel Comics.
