WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of All of Us Are Dead, now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix’s All of Us Are Dead was a thrilling, unpredictable ride in Hyosan as the zombie apocalypse broke out. It began in a high school, but quickly spilled over into the city, leading to On-jo and other students barely surviving a military bombing. However, as much as they emerged from the ordeal physically unscathed, they bore mental scars knowing they were now part of a refugee shanty town.
Given that the military is running their own twisted experiments on some of the undead, let’s look at where a Season 2 could take On-jo’s friends and what seems to be a government conspiracy at hand.
A New Hybrid Community Will Arise
Nam-ra, one of the hybrid students who had all the zombie powers but maintained her humanity, was seen at the school after Hyosan got bombed. She revealed to On-jo’s crew there were other hybrids like her, so they were hiding out and trying to live in peace. They know the military would want them, so Season 2 can dissect their dynamic and how they feed.
It’d flip the script on teens at the school looking for snacks and soft drinks, as these hybrids would need human or zombie flesh for sustenance. It could lead to a civil war, with Nam-ra wondering if these various personalities really are monsters, after all. Ultimately, it’d be intriguing to see how they evolve into super-soldiers should there be athletes among them, and if Nam-ra herself might decide to rebel against mankind.
The Military Will Be Running Twisted Projects
After the chief, Seon-moo, killed himself for blowing up most of Hyosan, the new military chiefs are a lot more heartless. They have a soldier in Jae-Jun to experiment on, as well as a hybrid student in Eun-ji. In the past, they tried to create a virus like what Byeong-chan did in his science lab at the school, so this rage virus may be what they were looking for all along.
They also have his family as patient zeroes to perfect his Jonas virus, which could enhance their army and help clean up Hyosan’s remaining zombies. Interestingly, Byeong-chan was turned in a police station saving a cop, Jae-il, so if he were a hybrid that survived the bombing, he could come for his family. Should he retain most of his humanity, there’s the chance the military uses the scientist to weaponize the virus, or maybe they’ll grow a heart and want a cure.
On-Jo’s Team Has To Pick Sides
The teens stuck together during the zombie war, but they’re now stricken with poverty and lacking resources. Still, On-jo wants to help Nam-ra as the former lost her dad when he came to save them at the school. They formed a sisterhood, plus Nam-ra also helped her beloved, Su-hyeok. Dae-su and Hyo-rung are also kind souls, who would love to aid their former buddies.
Ha-ri, the archer whose brother was bitten in the finale, saw Nam-ra snap his neck when he turned. She could flip if she thinks the new hybrids are threats, plus her buddy Mi-jin may also sell out the crew as she wants to go to university and return to a comfortable life outside Hyosan. Season 2 will definitely test their emotions and who they really are on the inside now that they’re seeking normalcy without families and income.
Whistleblowers May Find New Hybrids
Season 1 ended with firefighter U-sin broken over losing a mentor in On-jo’s dad, while the politician Eun-Hee was also pissed over the bombing. They could team up after spending time in quarantine, intent on exposing the military’s vision. They could even use Jae-il, his partner in Ho-cheol, as well as the vlogger, Orangibberish, who can gather intel for what would be a resourceful unit.
Most of all, while Cheong-san’s mom turned and was bombed at the school, Season 1 didn’t see much of his dad. He could return to help unlock what happened, with many fans suspecting folks from school survived and will be revealed as hybrids. They have regenerative powers, after all, so Cheong-San or their teacher, Mrs. Park, might be alive after the explosions. Of course, there’s always a chance the villainous, Gwi-nam, survived as a hybrid too, so the investigators may find more than they bargained for and possibly take the infection to other cities.
