Typically, a film comprised solely of well-mannered, perfectly behaved characters would get boring fast. Most films need some kind of conflict, and in many cases, well-written characters are perfect for creating friction. Not every character has the maturity or the manners that they should, and even the heroes of the film can lack these.
Heroes who start off with no manners, but grow to respect others and treat them properly, can actually be great and relatable role models. These characters show the audiences the consequences of having no manners through the characters’ relationships with others. Villains with no manners serve as a precautionary tale, as they always end up paying for their rude behavior in the end.
10 Luca: Ercole Visconti Spends The Entire Film Bullying Children
After winning the Portorosso Cup multiple times, Ercole’s victories got to his head. He loves to brag about his accomplishments, and uses intimidation tactics to make children fear him. He is at least 17 years old, and is practically a full-grown man who takes pleasure in pushing the younger kids around. He is even willing to mistreat his followers, barking orders at them with no consideration for their feelings. He loves competition so much that he was obsessed with obtaining the bounty for catching and killing a sea monster. He was willing to do anything to get this bounty, even if it was at someone else’s expense.
9 Cars: Chick Hicks Is Both Rude And Merciless
Chick Hicks has no manners. He isn’t seen doing anything nice in any of the films. He has an inflated ego and is obsessed with winning, to the point where he is willing to cheat. He is similar to the way Lightning McQueen used to be, but far ruder in his words and actions.
A little before The King’s retirement, Chick Hicks caused the rival racer to crash. He showed absolutely no remorse for his actions. Despite the fact that nearly everyone turned their back on him for his actions, he still brags about his ill-earned victory.
8 Toy Story: Woody Was Selfish And Mean To The Other Toys
Woody was an extremely narcissistic character who had a strong desire to be in charge. Although he would become a nicer character in later movies, he was originally content with barking out orders. When Buzz arrived, Woody immediately felt threatened, and one of the first things he told Buzz is that Andy’s bed is his spot, and that Buzz doesn’t belong there. As Buzz became more and more popular with Andy and the other toys, Woody’s way of talking to others became more curt. His jealousy got the best of him, going so far as to tell Buzz that he wished the space toy was in Sid’s yard and even attempted to knock him behind the desk.
7 Cars 2: Mater Consistently Embarrassed Lightning McQueen
Mater, unable to understand social cues or the needs of his best friend, lacked manners in Cars 2. After returning to Radiator Springs, McQueen was initially excited to see what Mater had planned for them. The excitement disappeared when he was forced on train tracks without wheels, blasted by a tipped Colossus XXL, and when Mater crashed McQueen’s date by pretending to be his waiter. Mater is the reason why McQueen felt obligated to prove himself in a race, and he even spends the entire movie claiming Holley Shiftwell is his girlfriend, despite her objections until she caved in very end.
6 Monsters, Inc.: Randall Boggs Didn’t Mind Using Underhanded Methods To Get Ahead
In his college days, Randall was actually a nice guy. He made cupcakes in an attempt to make friends, and was more than happy to help Mike study for exams. After getting accepted into Roar Omega Roar and losing the Scare Games, he changed. Not only did he turn his back on Mike, but his mistake during the final segment of the games made him a laughing stock.
As a professional Scarer, he had an air of superiority and always had a rude response for Sullivan despite the latter’s attempts to make peace with him. In hopes of getting promoted, Randall was willing to kidnap Boo and use his Scream Extractor on her.
5 Inside Out: Anger Allows His Rage To Get The Best Of Him
Anger is one of Riley’s emotions, representing exactly what his name suggests. When he gets enraged, he doesn’t hesitate to push the other emotions out of the way in order to give someone a piece of his mind. When Fear tried to calm him down, Anger actually punched him, sending him flying off screen. He also insults the other emotions when something goes wrong. He is the one who makes Riley raise her voice, throw a tantrum, and even show signs of physical aggression, such as when she shoved the dinner table once she was grounded.
4 Finding Nemo: The Seagulls Will Claim Anything They Can
The seagulls are portrayed as rather simple animals. They only utter the same word over and over again, indicating their own greed – “mine”. They are seen standing by the pelicans and staring at them as they ate, demanding to be fed. Their single-minded focus on consumption made them a surprisingly terrifying force for Marlin and Dory to reckon with. When Nigel tried to save them by carrying them in his mouth, an entire flock of seagulls pursued them, desperately wanting to claim the fish for themselves. Even when tricked into crashing into a boat’s sail, they carried on with their typical “mine” cries.
3 The Incredibles: Syndrome Was Willing To Sacrifice His Own Employees
On the surface, Syndrome appeared to be an extremely hospitable host. Not only did he give former heroes the trill of doing hero work again, but he gave them nice meals and made them feel like they were valued. However, it turned out that he hated heroes and sent many of them to their death under the guise of dealing with an out-of-control experiment. In addition to this, Syndrome was more than happy to encourage Mr. Incredible to go through with his threats to kill Mirage, much to her displeasure. With an attempted kidnapping on top of the rest of his crimes, Syndrome clearly lacks any manners or kindness.
2 Brave: Mor’du Became A Wild Beast
Mor’du was once a human prince. He had an obsession with strength and a desire to rule, which turned him against his brothers. When he came across the witch’s cottage, he asked for the strength of 10 men, thus, she sold him a potion that transformed him into a bear. As a bear, Mor’du slowly lost his sense of humanity. Before he was finally defeated at the end of the film, he attacked anyone indiscriminately. This made him feared by many, and gave the people in Merida’s kingdom a hatred towards bears, even towards those unrelated to Mor’du.
1 Monsters University: Roar Omega Roar Loved To Humiliate Oozma Kappa
Roar Omega Roar is a fraternity in Monsters University, made of the most talented and terrifying monsters on campus. Unless a monster can prove that they are the best of the best, particularly through good scores, a frightening appearance, and a prestigious family, Roar Omega Roar wouldn’t give them the time of day. Throughout the film, they are eager to upstage and embarrass Oozma Kappa in every way possible. In one instance, they covered the OK members in pink paint, glitter, flowers, and stuffed animals. After taking a picture, they sold shirts of the image under the guise of raising money for charity.
