Naruto: 10 Creepiest Characters Of The Franchise, Ranked | CBR

Certain Naruto characters, while incredibly compelling and interesting, just come off a bit strange. Meaning, some of them just shouldn’t be trusted with drinks at a party or with twelve-year-old boys thirsting for revenge for their fallen clan. There is a lot of variation on this strange scale, from beloved characters who are just slightly creepy to villains who are unsettling and frightening.

If anything, this is a testament to Kishimoto’s ability to write different kinds of characters. From characters that are barely a menace to characters that are horrible predators, Naruto boasts a cannon of characters with great variation.

10 Naruto is a Victim of Comedic Writing

Naruto by and large is certainly not a creepy character. He is a beloved protagonist who tries his best and fiercely protects his friends and his village. However, in the first few episodes of the anime, he does behave creepily towards Sakura when he tries to trick her into kissing him while he looks like Sasuke.

This comedic gag did not age gracefully into the 2020s, just like his Sexy Jutsu. However, it should be said that Naruto generally seems to respect women and does not take after his amorous mentors, Kakashi and Jiraiya.

9 Kakashi is Actually Super Weird

A beloved shinobi, Kakashi has many accomplishments and powers. He is well-respected in-universe and out of it. By all means, he isn’t a very creepy character until his proclivity for reading smut in public is considered.

Unlike Jiraiya, Kakashi does not behave creepily towards women, despite his smut addiction. But he does use his fingers in an inappropriate manner against Naruto during the bell test (another comedic gag that did not age well).

8 Jiraiya is a Menace

Jiraiya Crying Tears of Blood Goofy

To Jiraiya’s credit, he teaches Naruto well (if not sparingly) and is never creepy with teenage or pubescent girls like Sakura. And he is a beloved character whose death upset many.

With that in mind, no one can deny that Jiraiya has an issue with acting appropriately towards women. He is called the ‘Pervy Sage’ for a reason. He tries to peep in hot springs and other instances while women are bathing on multiple occasions. Naruto’s Sexy Jutsu is the thing that convinces Jiraiya to train him.

7 Gaara is Creepy in a Different Way

Gaara does become a good guy, but he has a rough path getting there. As the Jinchuriki possessed by the One-Tailed Shukaku, he is prone to anger and bloodlust and performs sand burials on many other shinobi. He kills countless people during the trials of the Chunin exams and kills spectators that annoy him at the final duels as well.

He does stop his evil ways after a transformational fight with another Jinchuriki, Naruto, and eventually becomes Kazekage. He even comes to Rock Lee’s rescue with Kimimaro and somewhat makes up for injuring Lee in the past.

6 Itachi is Terrifyingly Powerful

Itachi Bleeding Sharingan Fight

Itachi killed his entire clan. This alone makes him terrifying and creepy, but he also physically assaulted Sasuke on countless occasions, his only surviving clan member and his beloved brother. Itachi has no problem killing unless it comes to Sasuke.

What’s really creepy about Itachi is how receptive he was as a young Anbu to Danzo’s manipulation. He agreed to massacre his entire clan for their planned coup, and he did not hesitate. What else would he have agreed to?

5 Raiga Takes Advantage of a Disabled Child

Raiga Crying at Funeral

Raiga, from a filler arc in the original anime, takes advantage of a disabled child to enslave a village and murder its citizens by enclosing them in coffins alive for disagreeing with him.

Not only is this minor character a dictator, but he is also a predator. Ranmaru is completely convinced that he must be Raiga’s eyes and help him out with these atrocities. To be fair, Raiga does appear to care for Ranmaru even slightly, as he showed the young boy the world.

4 Zabuza Grooms Haku

Zaubza Looking Down Mask

Zabuza takes complete advantage of vulnerable Haku. Their entire relationship is creepy, predatory, and inappropriate. It is a lot similar to the relationship between Raiga and Ranmaru, however, this relationship is even worse because Haku dies for Zabuza.

It is revealed that Zabuza cares for Haku as he mourns his death, but this does not change the fact that the Demon of the Hidden Mist used a child as a weapon and groomed him to be a perfect soldier.

3 Madara Has Countless Creepy Sins

Madara Fight Crumbling

Madara using the Transcription Seal to rewrite his death is creepy. Plus he puts Hashirama’s flesh in him to get the Rinnegan. He also brings about the murder of Rin, traumatizing Kakashi, and he takes advantage of Obito, not to mention he likes the taste of his own blood.

It is important to note that Madara’s reputation has a lot to do with why Danzo was so suspicious of the Uchiha and believed they were evil, so he is partially responsible for Itachi and Sasuke’s suffering.

2 Hiruzen Sacrificing Children is Weird

Hiruzen Smiling Third Hokage

Hiruzen really believed in the Will of Fire. He believed that it was moral and correct to do anything to keep Konoha safe, including sacrificing the lives of children. He also allowed Naruto to live in squalor and be ostracized and bullied by the members of their village for being a Jinchuriki.

He didn’t tell Naruto about his true identity and never protected him from the abuse he received from the villagers. He also put a great deal of pressure on the unstable Orochimaru to be the perfect soldier and the next Hokage, partially causing Orochimaru’s crimes.

1 Orochimaru’s Experiments are Horrifying

Orochimaru’s long list of creepy sins would take ages to get through. His most obvious creepy sins would be his affiliation with snakes, including everything he does with his tongue; his grooming, abduction, and experimentation on Sasuke; and his determination to destroy Konoha.

He also experimented on six children to create the Wood Release, which had disastrous results. He experimented carelessly and frequently; he got Amachi to experiment on Isaribi in a filler episode that just gets more disturbing the more it is contemplated.
