Throughout the many anime siblings, there is always a power struggle. Sometimes, this power struggle is just over who is right or who is the best child to their parents. However, sometimes this power struggle is quite literal, with one sibling having magical abilities, physical strength, or influence via rank that the other sibling simply does not have.
Of all these complicated sibling dynamics, there are some in which the power struggle is between a sister and her brother. In a few of these cases, the sister is the more powerful of the two. In these situations, they outmatch their brothers — whether they reveal this secret or not.
10 Olivier Armstrong Is A Military Leader In Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’s Olivier Mira Armstrong is the sword-wielding sister to Alex Louis Armstrong. She is known for being merciless but heroic. While her brother is certainly strong, having alchemy capabilities and physical fitness on his side, Olivier is both a stronger leader and fighter.
As a major general, she is simultaneously well-respected and feared. She is also the next head of the Armstrong family. In a fight, Alex lost to Olivier; however, it is generally held that Alex’s growth made him stronger than his sister later points in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
9 Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Katara Is A Waterbending Master
While Katara started as a novice, by the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender, she is a true waterbending master — best seen in her fights with Pakku, Zuko, and Azula. While Sokka is a great warrior and tactician, since he is not a bender, he is no match for his sister’s skill, speed, and power.
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Katara not only learned waterbending, but she also mastered bloodbending, healing, and icebending. On top of all this, she is creative and quick, which led to her learning how to bend sweat in a pinch — and she has learned to mist and plant bend.
8 Emma Could Inspire Anyone, Unlike Ray & Norman
While all of the Gracefield House children are incredibly smart, with Ray, Norman, and Emma leading the competition, Emma is the one who has the willpower and constitution to change the world. In The Promised Neverland, Emma is famous for her inspiring speeches and her refusal to leave anyone behind.
Though Norman is capable of inspiring Lamda kids to escape their captivity and Ray is able to orchestrate a double agent situation, Emma is the one who inspirited a league of demons to rage against the status quo and ultimately end the need for them to eat humans. Her power lies in courage, positivity, and willpower.
7 Sakura Kinomoto Has The Clow Cards At Her Disposal In Cardcaptor Sakura
In Cardcaptor Sakura, Sakura Kinomoto has a sealing wand which is used to do the card capturing. She also has the powers of the various Clow Cards, each with its unique abilities. Her brother, Touya Kinomoto, is older than her and thus is more physically powerful (he even has a black belt in karate), and he also has abilities like spiritual awareness. However, Touya is no match for Sakura’s craftiness and the powers afforded to her by the Clow Cards. Even without the Clow Cards, her sealing wand has its magic.
6 Sailor Moon’s Usagi Tsukino Is A Sailor Senshi
Like many humans, Usagi Tsukino has a lot of personality flaws that make her relatable, and it is clear that she still has childish tendencies. In Sailor Moon, she fights with her brother, is selfish, and neglects her duties regularly. However, she is a Sailor Senshi, and as she progresses on her journey, she becomes one of the most powerful heroes in anime.
Usagi’s brother, on the other hand, does not even know she is Sailor Moon for the vast majority of the series, much less have powers. Even if he did have powers, it is unlikely he would be able to rival the power of his sister.
5 Jinora Could Tap Into The Spirit World In The Legend Of Korra
In The Legend of Korra, Jinora is the youngest modern airbending master. Jinora is smart, caring, and close with spirits and the spirit world. While her brothers and sisters all have their skills, strengths, and weaknesses, Jinora seems to constantly steal the show in comparison with her siblings. Not only is Jinora a powerful airbender, but her closeness to the spirit world has helped multiple characters on many occasions. Without Jinora’s powers, it is even likely Korra might not have succeeded in her spirit world endeavors, as Jinora often gave her advice.
4 Nezuko Kamado Is Off & On Stronger Than Tanjiro In Demon Slayer
In Demon Slayer, Nezuko Kamado gains demonic abilities after she is turned into a demon by the series’ antagonist, Muzan — who also killed everyone in her family (save her brother, Tanjiro). While Nezuko has the urge to consume human blood, she never does. As a result, she is bestowed amazing power.
Nezuko even kicks a demon’s head clean off its body and stops Rui when he almost kills Tanjiro. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer so he is sometimes more powerful than Nezuko. But at the beginning (and at intervals throughout Demon Slayer), Nezuko awakens new powers and overtakes Tanjiro for a time.
3 Noragami’s Hiyori Iki Could Wrestle & Astral Project
In Noragami, Hiyori Iki’s brother, Masaomi, is only ever mentioned in passing and he only makes an appearance within the manga. Masaomi is perceptive to the Far Shore, but other than that he has no extra abilities. Hiyori, on the other hand, has many abilities — primarily because she is half-phantom. Hiyori has her connection to the realm of spirits which includes a sixth sense ability. She also has more strength and movement because she is not wholly human. She also learned martial arts from watching television.
2 Kagome From Inuyasha Has A Powerless Brother In The Real World
In Inuyasha, Kagome Higurashi is a normal girl until she is transported into a demon-filled feudal Japan. She is an accomplished archer and has come up with more than a few improvised weapons that saved the day. Her tenacity and quick wit afford her success in this strange world.
Kagome’s brother, Sota Higurashi, was left behind in Kagome’s home-world and he has no special abilities to speak of — though he does take care of Towa when magic separated the child and dragged her to Sota’s world.
1 Orihime Has Guardians That Did Not Save Her Brother In Bleach
In Bleach, Orihime Inoue was raised by her older brother, Sora. In life, her brother was unimpressive in terms of power, but after his death, he became a hollow. He was a thorn in Ichigo’s side, but Orihime was always safe, thanks to Ichigo and her abilities.
Before his death, Sora gifted Orihime hair clips which eventually afford her the Shun Shun Rika. Furthermore, she has martial arts skills, can sense Reiatsu, and can endure higher levels of spiritual power. At the beginning of Bleach, she was weaker, and Sora’s hollow form was more imposing, but by the end, she has a handle on the supernatural world.
