School-Live!: 5 Times Yuki Almost Got Everyone Killed (& 5 She Saved Everyone)

Yuki is the main protagonist of the anime School-Live! The eccentric, friendly, energetic student has long survived the apocalypse thanks to her friends’ efforts, who created the School Living club as a ploy to keep her inside the school after the zombie outbreak. Unlike her friends, Yuki has no idea what is going on in the world around her, having suffered a mental breakdown that causes her to believe that everything is fine.

While living under such delusions allows Yuki to cope, it causes some trouble to her friends, whom Yuki sometimes endangers with her antics. Though, as much trouble as she can be, Yuki is also their savior on more than one occasion.

10 Danger: Yuki Never Helps With The Maintenance Of The School

While trapped inside of the school, it falls on everyone to help with the gardening, keep count of supplies, and maintain the barricades that protect the girls from the zombies below. While Yuki does a few chores considered to be club duties, she cannot do anything that would remind her of the surrounding apocalypse, instead following her old routines of attending class.

This ensures that her friends endanger themselves, doing the dangerous jobs that require them to leave their safe zone, especially Kurumi who takes on the worst jobs as the fighter of the group.

9 Savior: Her Delusions Brought Hope To The Club

Though it might seem to have little importance, Yuki’s games and imaginings actually saved the School Living club time and time again. The sports festival reminded Miki that life was about more than just survival. The letters that the girls sent out into the world filled them with the hope that some other humans might have survived as well, and the bravery test allowed the girls to raid the school shop for supplies without giving in to their fears.

Without the hope and sense of routine that Yuki’s antics created, Miki, Kurumi, and Yuuri might well have given up on themselves.

8 Danger: Yuki Never Considers Her Surroundings

Delusional as she is, Yuki doesn’t see the broken windows, blood on the walls, or general destruction around her; she is completely oblivious to her surroundings. While this is mostly played off as cute or harmless, it’s actually a rather worrying trait. Without the ability to sense danger, Yuki is often too loud and boisterous, constantly giving away the club’s position in scenarios where they have to be stealthy. Though the club does manage to control Yuki, giving reasons that she might have to be quiet, there could have been a time wherein this got them all killed.

Not only does the club ignore Yuki’s tendency to draw attention, but they also actively participate in her games. In the mall saga, Yuki encouraged them to play dress-up with her in the clothes store. While this might seem like good fun, it could have ended terribly; after all, who could be expected to run away from a zombie horde without shoes?

7 Savior: Yuki Rescued Miki From The Mall

After the trip to the mall, the girls are ready to head back to the school, never to leave it again for the foreseeable future. Yet, shortly after leaving, Yuki is certain that she heard something from inside the building. The others convince her that she’s imagining things and that they should leave.

Yuki ignores her friends, running inside, where she finds Miki, surrounded by zombies. Having followed Yuki back inside the mall, the group is able to save Miki’s life, taking her back to the school.

6 Danger: Yuki’s Test Of Courage Was A Bad Idea

In another one of her delusions, Yuki has a conversation with Megumi that leads her to come up with a club test of courage. The goal of the test is to wander the school at night, facing the idea of ghosts and other such imaginings. Although the others use the test as means of raiding the school shop, they don’t seem to consider how much of a bad idea the test was.

They leave their safe zone under the dark of night, all the while following Yuki who is far too loud. In the end, Yuki’s loudness attracts a zombie which Kurumi has to eliminate.

5 Savior: Yuki Rescued Miki From The Basement Shelter

After Kurumi was bitten by a zombified Megumi, Miki vowed to retrieve the medicine she needed from the basement shelter, which was by far the most dangerous area in the school. Although Yuki volunteered her help, having broken free from her delusions under the strain of such a traumatic event, Kurumi opted to go alone.

Having been put in her place Yuki initially remained hidden, but after a while, she knew that she had to do everything she could to make sure that her friends were safe. Leaving the safety of the club room, Yuki’s speech over the PA system created a distraction, causing the zombies to leave Miki alone.

4 Danger: Yuki Demanded A Field Trip To The Mall

Figuring that school clubs go out on field trips, Yuki decides that she and her friends should also do so, enlisting her friends for a trip to the mall. Unable to crush Yuki’s spirit, the club agrees to the trip, taking their biggest risks since the outbreak began. They have to navigate their way out of the school, make it through the car park, quickly learn how to drive a car, and that’s before they’ve even gotten to the infested mall.

Once the trip is over, the girls have little to show for it, taking a teddy bear back for Yuki instead of the dozens of supplies they could have taken instead.

3 Savior: Yuki Found The Files Detailing The Zombie Outbreak

Having found a key among Megumi’s belongings, Miki and Yuuri set about a search in the school faculty office that might shed some light on their current situation. Though they search high and low, there is no sign of anything that might be of use to them. Yuki finds the girls in their search and joins in, keen to help find whatever her imaginary version of Megumi wanted. In the midst of her whimsical search, Yuki manages to find a secret compartment with the files Miki and Yuuri were looking for.

The files that Yuki uncovers detail the origins of the zombie outbreak, information about other shelters, and the location of a secret bunker under the school. Without her discovery of the files, Kurumi would have died, and the School Living club would never have made the decision to look for survivors in the other shelters.

2 Danger: Yuki Froze Up In The Mall

After hearing Miki and running back into the mall to find her, Yuki was soon faced with a horde of zombies, all of whom had died there before the outbreak. Though Yuki is somewhat lucid at this moment, aware that she has to either save Miki or cut and run, she freezes up, having a panic attack.

Yuuri and Kurumi run to Yuki and Miki’s aid, acting quickly to save them. Although the group manages to leave the infested mall unscathed, Yuki’s actions almost got them all killed.

1 Savior: Yuki Got Rid Of The Zombie Horde Attacking The School

School Live finale

In the show’s finale, the school is overrun by the zombies of ex-students and faculty members. A zombified Tarōumaru rescues Yuki, causing her to realize that the zombies retain residual memories of their previous lives. In order to save her friends, Yuki runs through the thick of the horde, making her way to the school’s broadcasting room.

Once there, she uses the school’s PA system to give a heartfelt speech, telling the zombies that it’s time for them to go home. Without shedding a drop of blood, Yuki managed to rid the school of all zombies, saving everyone inside.
