Peacemaker Confirmed Chris’ Deadliest Ally Isn’t Vigilante – or Anyone in ARGUS

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Peacemaker Episode 6, “Murn After Reading,” now streaming on HBO Max.

In Season 1 of Peacemaker, John Cena’s Chris has had able support from Vigilante in the field. He also grew to respect his A.R.G.U.S. teammates, such as Harcourt, Adebayo and even Economos, realizing they could be efficient killers as well and eventually help him on the missions for Amanda Waller.

However, in the latest bloody episode, the marksman quickly discovered his deadliest ally wasn’t any of these individuals — it was his feathered sidekick: Eagly.

For the entire season, folks wondered why he kept Eagly around, thinking it had to be more than just a pet. Shockingly, the bird waited on him when he got out of jail and even hugged Chris, forming a sibling-like bond. It seemed when Chris accidentally killed his brother, Keith, in battle as a child, he wanted true companionship and someone — or something — he could trust.

But as the war against the Butterflies got more intense, Eagly proved to be more than a bestie — he was a valuable, deadly asset in combat. It occurred when Chris and Vigilante fled the cops attempting to arrest Peacemaker for Annie’s death in the premiere. Song got Auggie (Chris’ racist dad) out of prison, tracing the death back to Chris himself, so she brought a ton of officers down for the raid, hoping to make her career off Chris’ head.

Unfortunately, Vigilante broke the jar holding Goff, allowing the Butterfly to kill and possess Song. When the cops saw the guys hovering over the body, they immediately started chasing and firing on them, thinking they harmed the detective. It culminated in a brutal race in the woods, with Vigilante throwing knives and trying to paralyze people rather than kill them. It was part of Chris’ rule as he didn’t want to claim innocent lives anymore, but it left them vulnerable.

Luckily, Eagly didn’t get the memo and began swooping down at full-speed like an arrow, taking out pursuers. It was lightning-fast, as if a sniper were hitting the cops, leaving Vigilante impressed. No one predicted this bit of backup, especially the cops who couldn’t spot Eagly through the pine trees, at least until it was too late. Eagly took out three of them, but it was the final kill that was most gruesome.

The bird hit the last cop in the gut, knocked him out and then started pecking at his face. Eagly gouged out the screaming officer’s eyes in a gory scene, even terrifying Peacemaker over how savage a wingman he had. It set the stage for the corrupt chief, Locke, to help them escape and reminded Chris that Eagly can be counted on when things get dicey.

To see Eagly save the day, stream Peacemaker Episode 6, “Murn After Reading.” New episodes release every Thursday on HBO Max.
