The Book of Boba Fett Revealed Baby Yoda’s Mandalorian Gift | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett, “Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger,” streaming now on Disney+.

When Season 1 of The Book of Boba Fett shifted its gaze to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), fans were excited to see if he’d go find Baby Yoda. And thankfully, as much as he was into working with the Mandalorian covert — the Armorer and Paz Vizsla — he was very much missing the kid. It led to a mini-fallout in the crew and Din heading to Tatooine to get a Naboo starfighter to complete this endearing mission.

Come the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett, Din wasted no time as he tracked Grogu down to Luke Skywalker’s new home, hoping to see how his former charge was doing. And in the process, the audience finally got to see what Din’s mysterious gift was.

The Armorer melted down Din’s Beskar spear as it was unnatural in their culture. The alloy was meant for defense, not offense, so Din had no problem with turning it into liquid and creating something new for his ‘son.’ Fans only saw bits and pieces of chain links, though, which led to speculation as to what it could be.

All that was certain was that as Din wrapped and cradled it, it was sentimental and a true token of his love for the foundling he rescued. However, when he got to the temple site for the new Jedi Order, Ahsoka warned Din if Grogu saw him and got reattached, it’d hamper his training. The Jedi way, after all, is isolation in order to become one with the Force, as opposed to constantly being around love and family.

Din couldn’t process this aspect of the Light Side, but nonetheless, he respected it as this was Grogu’s people. Ultimately, he left the gift with Ahsoka, who eventually gave it to Luke. The Jedi Master later revealed it to Grogu, warming his heart as the child saw it was armor. It spoke to the Mandalorian way, as seen with Din and Boba Fett, with this truly making Grogu part of their culture. However, Luke wasn’t too impressed and indicated that Grogu would have to choose between Yoda’s lightsaber and being a Padawan, or taking the armor and being Din’s apprentice.

It felt a bit cold but did speak to the turbulent history the Mandalorians and Jedi had from years before. Both groups had conflict, with the Darksaber that Tarre Vizsla created as a Mandalorian/Jedi soldier being stolen from the temple.

Thus, as much as Luke respects Din, he may not trust him and could view this armor as a sign of a tainted, corrupt and war-mongering past. Which one Grogu will choose is hard to predict, but seeing as Luke’s conditioning is sort of by force — no pun intended — while Mando is all about free will, the armor may well be the key to officially inducting Grogu into the Mandalorian pack after renouncing the Jedi religion.

The first six episodes of The Book of Boba Fett are streaming now on Disney+. The Season 1 finale airs Wednesday, Feb. 9.
