10 Things Goku Can Do That Superman Can’t | CBR

When thinking of heroes with the most amount of special powers and abilities, one of the first that comes to mind is DC’s Man of Steel, Superman. Superman’s wide variety of powers makes him one of the strongest heroes in the DC Universe who’s capable of almost anything. Few are able to top that. But in the world of anime, it’s a different story.

There are tons of debates about whether Dragon Ball‘s Goku can actually beat Superman in a fight since they’re similar in various ways. Despite Superman’s many abilities, smart anime fans know that Goku actually has a number of skills that Superman doesn’t.

10 Goku Can Use Telepathy To Broadcast His Thoughts Or Read Minds

Goku's Telepathy, Dragon Ball Z

When most think about Goku’s powers, the first things that probably come to mind are his Saiyan strength, power of flight, or various fighting techniques. Goku has a handful of skills that are rarely used and some forget he can do them. Goku’s telepathy skill is one such example.

With this power, Goku is able to broadcast his thoughts to communicate with others without having to speak. It also makes him capable of reading minds to catch up on recent events. While it’s unclear how he learned it or why he doesn’t use it often, it’s still something Superman can’t do at all.

9 Goku Has A Number Of Ki Techniques

Over the years, Goku has learned to harness the power of ki to create powerful techniques. These range from small bursts of energy for attacks, flight, and even transformations. Goku’s mastery of ki also allows him to sense the presence or energy of others. The more powerful the enemy, the better he can sense them.

Of course, the most popular application of ki in the Dragon Ball franchise are all the fighting techniques that can be used. Goku’s got a whole arsenal of them, including Solar Flare, the Spirit Bomb, and the iconic Kamehameha.

8 Goku Has Been Shown To Heal The Wounds Of Others

One common ability that both Superman and Goku have is quick healing. With enough time, either character can swiftly heal from wounds that most couldn’t. However, one trait in Goku’s healing power that Superman doesn’t have is the ability to heal not just himself, but others too.

By sharing his ki, Goku can revitalize whoever he chooses and heal their injuries. Goku’s ability to do this isn’t used often, but it’s potent enough to save someone on the brink of death. This even worked on Frieza after he was sliced into pieces near the end of their fight.

7 Being Able To Turn Into A Great Ape Was Once One Of Goku’s Abilities

Great Ape In Dragon Ball

Since he’s a Saiyan, Goku was originally born with a tail. His tail not only gave him better balance but the ability to transform into the giant Great Ape after looking at a full moon. In this form, Goku’s strength would also greatly increase too, but he’d also become a savage and mindless beast in the process.

Only cutting off Goku’s tail could reverse his transformation. In the original Dragon Ball, Goku would continuously transform and lose his tail until eventually, it stopped growing back. Fortunately for Goku, he’s long since outgrown the need for a Great Ape transformation.

6 Goku Can Gather Energy From Anyone In The Universe

One of Goku’s most powerful techniques is the Spirit Bomb, which Goku has defeated various foes with. The only catch for such a powerful move is that it takes time to charge it, requiring Goku to gather energy from anywhere and anyone he can as it grows in power and size.

This process can stretch far across Dragon Ball‘s known universe,  as Goku has managed to gather energy for the Spirit Bomb from multiple planets and even the entire universe itself during the GT era, which was used to defeat Omega Shenron.

5 Using Evil Containment Wave Technically Means Goku Can Use Magic

Goku uses Evil Containment Wave, Dragon Ball Super

It can be hard sometimes to remember that, despite all of the alien, multiverse, and other wild sci-fi elements always present in Dragon Ball‘s canon, magic exists, too. There are various mystical forces at play, down to the wish-granting Dragon Balls themselves being magical in origin, and Goku is no stranger to them either.

Goku’s been able to learn Evil Containment Wave, a move that was invented to seal away demons within a pot, jar, or some other container with the right talisman on it. This technically means that Goku’s capable of learning magic on top of his many other talents.

4 Goku Can Copy The Moves Of His Opponents

Goku’s an adaptable fighter who’s able to use nearly anything to his advantage, including learning new moves on the fly or just straight-up copying them. Whether it’s training or in the middle of a battle, Goku’s ability to mimic moves that he’s seen before has come in handy and has made for an impressive arsenal of techniques.

Surprisingly some of Goku’s signature moves were actually gained this way, such as Solar Flare and the Kamehameha, which he learned by imitating those who originated it. This even goes as far as abilities from the Gods themselves, as Goku was even able to use Hakai after watching Beerus do it.

3 Goku’s Capable Of Fusing With His Allies

Fusion is a recurring element in Dragon Ball. Two fighters who are desperate to defeat their opponent can fuse together into a much more powerful combination. While fusion can be done through the Potara Earrings, Goku has shown that he’s also able to fuse with his allies through the means of the Fusion Dance.

While it’s not always perfect and some results turn out less favorable than others if the technique isn’t done just right, Goku’s been able to achieve powerful forms through fusion that have really saved the day.

2 Goku Can Teleport With Instant Transmission

Both Superman and Goku are fast, whether they’re on the ground or in the air. For both of them, there are few who can really match those levels of speed. However, if the situation is dire and he needs to be there quickly, Goku does have one thing to his advantage that Superman does not: Instant Transmission.

After learning this technique on Planet Yardrat, Goku can use Instant Transmission to teleport himself or others to just about anywhere he chooses in a matter of seconds, including far-off planets and even the afterlife.

1 Goku Can Go Super Saiyan & Everything Beyond It

Next to the Kamehameha, Goku’s most popular ability is the power to transform into a Super Saiyan. Over the years, Goku’s amassed a number of Super Saiyan forms. Each form is more powerful than the original, such as Super Saiyan 2, all the way up to Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue.

While Superman does have his Super Flare power that’s slightly similar, it’s less of a transformation and more of a devastating blast that uses up all the solar energy in his body. Goku’s power, on the other hand, is greatly enhanced on top of his new appearance.
