Final Fantasy VII Remake Producer Promises Part 2 Announcement

More information on the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake Part II will be revealed in 2022… if everything goes according to plan.

As reported by VGC, Yoshinori Kitase, the director of the original Final Fantasy VII, announced during the game’s 25th-anniversary event that Square Enix will make an announcement regarding the second part of the remake in 2022. “We are hard at work on Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, so please look forward to that. In addition, with regards to the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake [Part 2]… there will be more information… this year if we can,” reads the translation of Kitase’s speech.

Kitase goes on to reassure fans that a reveal for the second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake will arrive in 2022 as a part of the ongoing celebrations. “Well yeah. We just started the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, so we want to celebrate and get fans excited, so within the next 12 months we want to share some information. Look forward to more information!” said Kitase.

Given the cliffhanger ending of Final Fantasy VII Remake, fans of the franchise have been desperately waiting for any kind of news regarding the sequel. The first chapter includes several significant deviations from the original game, leading many fans to question where the game’s next part could take their beloved characters.

Final Fantasy VII was originally released for the PlayStation One in 1997, going on to become widely recognized as the most popular entry in the long-running role-playing series. Featuring a unique diesel-punk aesthetic, fans were quickly enamored by Cloud and his ragtag group of warriors who embark on a quest to dismantle and destroy Shinra, a powerful corporation destroying the environment. The game has been re-released for several consoles in the years since its release.

The remake of Final Fantasy VII eventually arrived for the PlayStation 4 in 2020. This ground-up revamp of the classic RPG not only includes an entirely new graphics engine but several mechanical and narrative twists on the original. The game received almost universal praise from critics who lauded its engaging combat system which managed to implement more active elements while also paying homage to the turn-based system which came before. Final Fantasy VII Remake was eventually ported to PC in late 2021.
