WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Naomi Season 1, Episode 3, “Zero to Sixty ” now available on the CW.
One of the biggest moments in Naomi was the revelation Dee (Alexander Wraith) was a soldier from Thanagar. As he showed Naomi his wings, it lit DC fans up who were dying to see Hawkman and Hawkgirl’s species in live-action, especially in their alien element. However, in the latest episode, he’s not the only cosmic ally Naomi has at her disposal. As she dug deeper into the mystery of her origins and Zumbado’s disc, she met one of DC’s most obscure cosmic heroes and someone who could be crucial moving forward.
This is Adam Blake (Chase Anderson), who’s known in the books as Captain Comet. Created by Julius Schwartz, John Broome and Carmine Infantino in the ’50s, he’s a metahuman mutant who gained powers when a comet passed over his home in the Midwest. He’d develop flight, telekinesis, telepathy and a degree of teleportation and clairvoyance over the years.
It led to him being deemed the pinnacle of human evolution, participating in the Rann-Thanagar War as an ally to Hawkman and Adam Strange, while aiding Superman against cosmic threats in the New 52. Still, he’s not as popular as other heroes, but Naomi found a way of using his higher-functioning brain and ability to “see” beyond the galactic veil.
Dee took her to Adam’s base, where he initially came off like a hipster in his lab, filled with computers and pinball machines. However, he confessed the disc was an ancient form of encrypted communication, and as he took Naomi’s hands, he connected to her energy to read her signature. Aliens in this show emit a different aura, so Adam tried to decipher clues to where the disc was now because Zumbado lured her in with a fake. However, the energy overwhelmed him, as he admitted he’d never felt anything so powerful as her. He confirmed she was matched to the disc as its key, and she might be able to translate it according to explorers who visited the land centuries ago, but before they could go further, the military raided the lab.
As shots rang out, he told Dee to flee with Naomi while he took care of the soldiers. That was the last fans saw of him, leaving them curious how Adam was in battle and exactly what was his past with Dee. Seeing as Dee worked with Superman, maybe Adam worked with the Man of Steel in this universe. Only time will tell, but what’s worth noting is Adam could become a target for Zumbado.
The tyrant hinted he needs Naomi to unlock the disc and a portal so he could attack his homeworld, which hints Adam might come in handy for this. For now, Adam has bigger things to worry about as the military wants all aliens dead or imprisoned, which suggests he’ll cross paths with Dee and his protege later on again.
See how Captain Comet debuts in Naomi, with new episodes airing on The CW Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT.
