Following a truly heartwarming proposal in the pilot episode of How I Met Your Father, the newly engaged couple, Sid and Hannah, barely had an hour to celebrate because Hannah had to leave the city as an organ transplant became available, and she was needed back. This upset Sid, as he not only missed out on post-proposal celebrations, it also meant he had to spend time apart from the love of his life. However, in the age of the internet, the issue of distance is barely an issue, but there are still hurdles.
A new package arrived for Sid at Pemberton’s, the bar he owns. At first, he assumed the package was a meal kit, as he and Hannah have started cooking and eating their meals through video calling. However, what Sid pulled out of the box was not a curated collection of ingredients, but was instead a stimulation toy. While this confused him, Valentina provided a quick description of how it worked and what it did, which confused Sid even more. He tried to call Hannah to tell her what he though. but Valentina stopped him, telling him that Hannah was trying to keep things fresh and he should give it a try before shying away from it.
Valentina offered to help Sid with the set up by giving him her ring light and providing pieces of advice for angles. Impressed, Sid complimented her expertise with Valentina revealing she had been in many long distance relationships, even with a Polish pilot at one moment. As the night moved closer, Sid prepared himself for an unexpected night. After trying to make everything work, Sid gave up and told Hannah how he really felt about the toy. This upset Hannah because while she was not happy with the distance, she was at least trying.
Feeling defeated, Sid went to Valentina’s to return her light and update her on the situation. He confessed to her that when Hannah took the residency in Los Angeles, they agreed to be different from typical long distance relationships and do their best to make time for the relationship, but their schedules and commitments were creating too big of a barrier. Valentina could not stand to see this relationship suffer any longer, so she offered up some help by asking a favor from her Polish pilot.
Moments later, Sid arrived to Hannah’s front door in Los Angeles, with Hannah asking what he is doing there, to which he responded that this is him trying. The lovebirds made it inside the apartment and finally got to spend some long awaited time together. Valentina’s pilot friend could help be the glue that keeps these lovebirds together, but if this relationship fails along the way, Sid will still be in the running for the identity of The Father, as he is still one of the possible options.
