Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, officially joined “the council” by participating in a viral TikTok trend.
The Council vs. The Rogues is a joke war between “the council of men” and the “rogues” who share their secrets. The “war” began in January 2022 on TikTok when user @thevantalord (aka. Ben), who portrays a character tasked with keeping the secrets of men, jokingly criticized fellow user @chedurena (aka Che Durena) for sharing these secrets with his followers, which include how men are able to covertly scratch their testicles through their pockets. Now, Conroy has officially joined The Council, in a video shared by Ben on TikTok.
“This is Batman calling you from Wayne Manor with a very important announcement,” Conroy said in the video. “I will be joining the council, and our objective is to keep the secrets over the rogues. So watch out, because we are patrolling Gotham.” The video currently has 337,000 likes and has been shared over 4,000 times.
Conroy began his role as the voice of the Dark Knight in Batman: The Animated Series, which originally aired on Fox Kids between 1992 and 1995. He went on to portray Batman in multiple DC Animate Universe projects, including Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and many more. He has also voiced the character in the video games Batman: Arkham, Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2. Conroy is also set to reprise his role as Batman for an upcoming Batman: The Animated Series audio drama from DCAU screenwriter Alan Burnett.
In his nearly 30 years as a voice actor, one of Conroy’s most recognizable lines as Batman comes from an episode of The Animated Series, “Nothing to Fear,” wherein he says, “I am vengeance. I am the Night. I am Batman.” The use of this phrase in the upcoming iteration of the Dark Knight, Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, was revealed with a new “Wingsuit Batman” figure from Spinmaster, which features sound effects such as Batman saying, “I am the night.” This was also teased in the first official trailer for The Batman, in which Pattinson’s hero declared, “I’m vengeance,” while fighting a group of criminals.
The Batman has been described as a neo-noir crime thriller that follows a younger Bruce Wayne who is only in his second year of vigilantism. The film, which stars Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 4, 2022.
