John Cena provided a bit too much information about his body hair while hosting TBS Network’s Wipeout.
In a promo for an upcoming episode of Wipeout shared by TBS, Cena jokingly revealed to co-host Nicole Byer that he can’t grow a mustache. When Byer asked him, “What about body hair?” Cena replied, “I can’t grow that either,” before revealing that “it’s quite smooth, from the eyebrows down.”
Wipeout is a reality competition show Cena, Byer and field-host Camille Kostek, where contestants attempt to complete an obstacle course for a $25,000 prize. The series first aired on ABC in 2008 and ran until 2014. It was later revived on TBS, airing its first season in April 2021, before being renewed for Season 2 in May that same year. Last year, Cena’s co-stars in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad appeared on a special episode of the show, titled “The Suicide Squad Special,” to act as encouragement for the competing teams. The guest stars included Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior. New episodes of Wipeout’s second season are currently airing on TBS Network.
Along with hosting Wipeout, Cena currently stars in HBO Max’s The Suicide Squad spinoff series, Peacemaker, as the titular anti-hero. Announced as a television series in 2020, Peacemaker picks up after the events of The Suicide Squad, with Cena reprising his role as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker. “This guy is a loud, obnoxious, bro-ey douchebag,” Cena previously said about his character. “That sucks. But why? At what point did he become such a douchebag and what does that mean? There’s a lot to dive into there.”
Created by Gunn, the series follows Peacemaker, now recovered from the bullet wound given to him by Bloodsport, who is drafted into an off-the-books mission known as Project Butterfly, with ARGUS agents Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) and Leota Abedayo (Danielle Brooks), as well as Adrian Chase/Vigilante (Freddie Stroma). The HBO Max original series is currently the highest-reviewed project in the DC Extended Universe, just ahead of 2017’s Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins.
Gunn has previously stated that DC Films and HBO Max let him go “hog wild” for the series, giving him plenty of freedom in this addition to the DCEU. When Peacemaker was first announced, Gunn called the series “an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag.” He said, “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series.”
New episodes of Wipeout air every Tuesday, while Peacemaker drops new episodes every Thursday on HBO MAx.
