Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett Gives Thundercat a Powerful Character Poster

The latest player in Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett is showcased in a brand-new poster.

Musician Thundercat appears in the latest promotional image for his role as an unnamed Tatooine mod-parlor artist. The bass player/songwriter made his acting debut in the latest episode “Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm.”

In the episode’s flashback sequence, Boba Fett — played by Temuera Morrison — rests at night after scoping out the palace of Bib Fortuna in an attempt to reclaim his ship, which remains locked up after Fett’s apparent death by Sarlacc monster in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Fett subsequently comes across the badly wounded assassin Fennec Shand — played by Ming-Na Wen — in the pair’s first encounter. Fett takes Shand to the Mos Eisley mod-parlor, where Thundercat’s character replaces the injured parts of Shand’s body with cybernetic mechanisms, saving the assassin’s life.

The sequence goes on to explain the formation of Fett’s alliance with Shand, as the two break into Fortuna’s (formerly Jabba the Hutt’s) palace, steal back Fett’s ship, kill the gang of bikers who had murdered Fett’s Tusken Raider tribe members, and attempt — but fail — to locate Fett’s armor in the Sarlacc pit. The flashback effectively brings Fett and Shand’s story up to date with their initial appearance in The Mandalorian.

Thundercat — listed as Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner in the episode’s credits — is best known for his Grammy Award-winning album It Is What It Is from last year, as well as his 2016 Grammy for his collaboration with rapper Kendrick Lamar on Lamar’s track “These Walls.” In addition to It Is What It Is, Thundercat has released three previous albums. The musician previously played bass guitar as Steve Bruner for thrash metal band Suicidal Tendencies, joining his brother in the band, drummer Ron Bruner. Steve Bruner was a member of Suicidal Tendencies for about ten years beginning in 2002 before pursuing a solo career.

In The Book of Boba Fett, the former bounty hunter has been assembling a group of allies as he settles into his new role as Mos Espa daimyo, but Thundercat’s cybernetic artist is seen only in flashback during his sole appearance thus far. It remains unknown whether the character will become part of Fett’s modern-day adventures, or even be seen again in the series.
