Demon Slayer is a mega-popular shonen anime series in the modern era that may be considered unofficial “Big Three” material along with Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. This is because Demon Slayer boasts not only excellent animation and a cool combat system but also deeply compelling and memorable characters, too.
Everyone loves the compassionate hero Tanjiro Kamado, and the same is true of the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. He is famed for his outgoing personality, enthusiasm, strong sense of duty, and his incredible courage in battle. He may be gone now, but Kyojuro fans can find plenty of similar anime characters to appreciate, too.
10 Might Guy Is A Cheerful Mentor To Rock Lee (Naruto)
Kyojuro Rengoku was like a protective big brother to Tanjiro and his friends, and he inspired them in his dying moments. Essentially, Kyojuro was like an anime mentor, meaning he may remind Demon Slayer fans of other anime mentors and coaches, too.
Might Guy is Rock Lee’s taijutsu coach and #1 supporter in Naruto. Like Kyojuro, Guy is famed for his flamboyant, inspiring, and confident personality. Might Guy doesn’t have a sword or flames but he will bravely take on the strongest foes without hesitation, such as Madara Uchiha or Kisame Hoshigaki, using only his bare fists.
9 Mirajane Strauss Is A Tough & Kind Big Sister (Fairy Tail)
Mirajane Strauss is the oldest of the three Strausses in Fairy Tail, and she’s also like a protective big sister to the rest of the Fairy Tail guild’s members, too. She ranks among the guild’s best fighters along with Erza, Laxus, and Gildarts, who may be considered a “Hashira” of the guild.
Just like Kyojuro, Mirajane has a lively and warm personality that makes her easy to like and her siblings really look up to her as a role model and protector. Mirajane never hesitates to fight the strongest foes who challenge the Fairy Tail guild, including members of the dreaded Tartaros guild.
8 All Might Leaps Into Action With A Smile (My Hero Academia)
When it comes to fire-based heroes, Kyojuro the Flame Hashira is a lot like My Hero Academia‘s Endeavor. Their personalities are wildly different, however, and Kyojuro would be dismayed if he learned about Endeavor’s mistreatment of his family. Instead, Kyojuro would find a lot more common ground with the invincible All Might.
All Might shares Kyojuro’s enthusiasm and charisma as a famous hero. They also both dive into action with a confident smile on their faces, determined to inspire everyone around them as they save the day. Kyojuro really went Plus Ultra against Akaza to buy time until the sun rose. He was Tanjiro’s Symbol of Peace.
7 Major Alex Louis Armstrong Wants To Inspire & Impress Everyone (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Major Alex Louis Armstrong is a state alchemist in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood who has a lot in common with All Might as well as Kyojuro Rengoku. Major Armstrong is a powerful hero with a noble purpose, and he refused to continue slaughtering innocents in the Ishval Civil War. Kyojuro would approve.
Armstrong and Kyojuro are known for their flashy and outgoing personalities, and they are enthusiastic allies of their respective shonen heroes, Edward Elric and Tanjiro. These characters might annoy others with their loud antics, but they are also deeply respected by all.
6 Aoi Todo Is Enthusiastic In Battle (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Aoi Todo is a bit more of an antihero than Kyojuro Rengoku is, but when Aoi is on his best behavior, he becomes a fighter worthy of being compared to the Flame Hashira. Aoi is an enthusiastic and passionate jujutsu sorcerer who has no patience for indecisive or weak-willed allies such as Megumi Fushiguro.
Instead, Aoi wants to fight alongside a true spiritual brother who shares his fiery passion for battle and attractive women, and Yuji Itadori wound up becoming Aoi’s trusted brother in the battle against Hanami. Aoi was definitely the star of that fight, just the way Kyojuro took center stage in the Mugen Train story arc.
5 Muhammad Avdol Has Fire & A Good Heart (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
Muhammad Avdol is a friend of Joseph Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and one of the first Stand users to appear, aside from Jotaro and Joseph. His Stand is named Magician’s Red, which wields devastating flames in battle. Thematically, that ties Avdol closely to Kyojuro.
On top of that, Avdol shares Kyojuro’s sense of personal loyalty and warrior’s honor, and Avdol gave his life to protect Polnareff from the wrath of Vanilla Ice in Cairo. Avdol is also known for his warm personality and general enthusiasm, though not quite on Kyojuro’s level.
4 Portgas D. Ace Would Give Anything For Family (One Piece)
Portas D. Ace is Luffy’s foster brother in One Piece, and the two brothers shared a dream of exploring the great seas as successful pirates. Ace joined the Whitebeard Pirate crew and gained the power of a flame-based Devil Fruit. He was also known for his loyalty and sense of duty, just like Kyojuro.
Ace and Kyojuro share fire themes and similar personalities, even if Ace isn’t quite as outgoing. Both warriors laid down their lives for the sake of the people most important to them and they were both true inspirations when they died.
3 Shinra Kusakabe Will Save Everyone With His Flames (Fire Force)
Fire Force‘s Shinra Kusakabe suffered a terrible tragedy in his boyhood when his mother became an Infernal and his baby brother Sho seemingly died, but that didn’t break him. Instead, this tragedy inspired Shinra to become a heroic fire soldier who will save the day and inspire the masses.
In that sense, Shinra is a lot like All Might, but he also shares Kyojuro’s fire theme and intense passion for inspiring his allies in battle. Shinra pushed himself to the absolute limit, risking his own life to reconnect with and save his villainous brother Sho. That’s not too different from Kyojuro risking his life while fighting Akaza to protect everyone else.
2 Thors Gave His Life For His Men (Vinland Saga)
Thors the Viking warrior has a lot in common with both All Might and Kyojuro in Vinland Saga, mainly on the inside. He grew weary of endless war and fled the Jomsvikings to start a new life on Iceland’s peaceful coast, where he taught his son Thorfinn that no one has any true enemies. There is no good reason to kill anyone.
Thors was later lured into a trap in the Faroe Islands with his crew and son, and he bravely fought Askeladd the raider in a duel to protect his men. This scene may remind Demon Slayer fans of Kyojuro’s battle with Akaza, and sure enough, the battle ended with the hero’s tragic but inspiring death.
1 Benimaru Would Give Anything For Rimuru Or Shuna (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)
Benimaru is an expert swordsman with formidable flame powers at his disposal, just like Kyojuro. Benimaru doesn’t share Kyojuro’s sheer charisma in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, but he’s still a loyal and brave fighter who will gladly risk his life to shield his boss, Rimuru, or his beloved little sister, Princess Shuna, from harm.
Benimaru has been one of Rimuru’s best allies ever since they crossed paths in Season 1, and in Season 2, he was an inspiring and smart leader during a battle against Clayman’s armies in Eurazania. He easily commands the respect of everyone in Rimuru’s kingdom.
