Kingdom Hearts is a very popular video game series, in no small part due to how much fans like the characters. As a crossover between Square Enix and Disney properties, Kingdom Hearts contains many characters from other RPG games and Disney movies, while also having a lot of original heroes and villains.
One of the most important themes in the Kingdom Hearts series is friendship. There are dozens of amazing friendships depicted throughout the games, but some of them shine even brighter than others for their depth or contribution to the plot.
10 Xehanort And Eraqus Were Lifelong Friends
Xehanort and Eraqus were friends for a long time. When Xehanort went to Scala ad Caelum, the two trained alongside each other and became very close. Years later, they became masters, and though they grew apart, still respected each other. However, once Eraqus learned that Xehanort wanted to start a second Keyblade War, he felt like he had to stop him.
Of course, Eraqus didn’t know that Xehanort secretly wanted to do this in order to restart the world and protect Kingdom Hearts from darkness. The two temporarily became enemies, but would eventually forgive each other when Xehanort realized that Eraqus’ students and their comrades could defend Kingdom Hearts themselves. Xehanort accepted his defeat and faded away with his best friend.
9 Terra And Ventus Cared More About Each Other Than Anyone Else
Originally, Ventus was a student of Xehanort’s. However, after Xehanort used Ventus to create Vanitas, he brought him to Eraqus. There he became close friends with Terra, looking up to him a lot. When Ventus learned from Vanitas that Terra was going to leave the Land of Departure in order to prove that he was worthy of being a Keyblade Master, Ventus wanted to go with him and traveled across many worlds to find him.
However, Terra was being used by Xehanort the entire time and planned to force Ventus and Vanitas to fight so he could obtain the X-Blade. Terra did everything that he could to defend his friend but ultimately fell into darkness. Years later, Ven teamed up with Aqua and Sora to save Terra.
8 Marluxia And Larxene Were Comrades No Matter What Time Period They Were In
Before they became nobodies, Marluxia and Larxene lived during the Age of Fairytales as Lauriam and Elrena. Lauriam’s sister, Strelitzia, was friends with Elrena. After she disappeared, the two tried to find her, not knowing that Darkness had used Ventus to kill her. Lauriam, Elrena, and some of the other keyblade wielders would eventually be separated across time and space.
However, no matter how far apart they were from each other and despite becoming nobodies, Larxene and Marluxia found each other again. The two became members of Organization XIII and secretly worked together to overthrow it.
7 Sora And Goofy Proved To Be Very Loyal To Each Other
When Sora first met Goofy, as well as Donald, he was hesitant to join him on his journey. However, Leon convinced him to travel to many differnt worlds and save them from the darkness. Goofy did everything that he could in order to help Sora but eventually faced a difficult decision. Sora wasn’t the keyblade wielder that Goofy was supposed to team up with originally. That was Riku, and though Goofy considered leaving Sora to continue his mission, he proved to be a loyal friend. Sora proved to be loyal to Goofy many times after that as well.
6 Axel Was Roxas’ First Friend
When Roxas joined Organization XIII, the only person that was nice to him was Axel, who taught him how to be a friend. The two would spend most of their free time together. However, Axel kept many secrets from Roxas. When Roxas began learning the truth about Organization XIII, he left.
After fighting Riku, Roxas got amnesia and Axel was upset to learn that his friend wasn’t the same person anymore. Luckily, Roxas would eventually remember who he was and the two of them reunited during the battle between the Guardians of Light and Seekers of Darkness. Roxas was able to forgive Axel and the two of them returned to being best of friends.
5 Riku And Mickey Became Very Close As They Shared A Common Goal
After betraying Sora, Riku soon regretted his decision and went to Castle Oblivion where he became close friends with King Mickey. Wanting to save Sora and defeat Organization XIII, the two began working together. They ended up caring a lot about each other, and would go on other journeys together after defeating the original Organization. They went to the Realm of Darkness in order to rescue Aqua, who had been there for over a decade, and fought alongside each other during Seekers of Darkness and Guardians of Light’s battle.
4 Donald And Goofy Always Worked Together
Donald and Goofy lived in Disney Town and were close friends with King Mickey. When Mickey ordered them to find a keyblade wielder, the two went on a journey to Traverse Town in order to find him, eventually teaming up with Sora and traveling Kingdom Hearts’ many worlds together. Sora would leave them from time to time, but Donald and Goofy always wanted to be around each other and did everything together. They helped their other friends out however they could but cared about each other more than anyone else.
3 Roxas And Xion Were The Closest Friends In Organization XIII
After Roxas joined the Organization, the leadership wanted to make sure they would have a keyblade wielder in case anything happened to him. They used the Replica Program to create Xion, though she and Roxas had no idea how strongly connected they were. Once Xion learned where she came from and that she was needed in order to save Sora, she left Organization XIII.
She also tried to bring Roxas with her, hoping that together they could wake Sora up. Roxas had no choice but to kill his friend, causing everyone to forget she ever existed until she was brought back as the final member of the Seekers of Darkness. Sora and Roxas were able to make her remember who she really was, allowing everyone else that knew her to remember her as well.
2 Sora And Kairi Meant Everything To Each Other
Sora and Kairi have been incredibly close ever since they were children. She mysteriously arrived at Destiny Islands after living in Radiant Garden for the first few years of her life. However, when the heartless attacked Destiny Islands, her heart accidentally went inside of Sora without him knowing. He cared about her so much that he was willing to sacrifice himself to set her free. In return, she discovered a way to bring him back as well. The two did everything they could in order to protect each other, and were devastated whenever something bad happened to the other.
1 Sora And Riku Would Also Do Anything For Each Other
Just like Kairi, Riku was willing to do anything for Sora. Though the two temporarily became enemies when Maleficent manipulated Riku into thinking that Sora replaced him with Donald and Goofy, Riku did everything that he could in order to make things right. When he learned that Sora had fallen asleep for a long time due to losing his memories, he helped however he could to bring him back.
However, when Sora woke up, Riku was ashamed to see Sora, especially since he had to give in to the darkness to help him. Once Sora and Riku did reunite, Sora broke down in tears, happy to be with his first friend once again. Riku was willing to do anything to save Sora, whether it meant becoming his Dream Eater during their Mark of Mastery exam or going to Quadratum to bring him back home.
