Jayce was one of the playable champions from League Of Legends and became a main character in Netflix’s spin-off series, Arcane. When he was a child, he and his mother were saved by magic. This lead to him wanting to use magic to improve people’s lives. In the beginning of Arcane, now a scientist, Jayce’s dangerous research was discovered after Vander’s children accidentally blew up his study.
He would eventually benefit Piltover with magic, known as Hextech, and become one of the most powerful and respected characters in Arcane. Despite being well-respected, there were plenty of instances where Jayce ruined his likability.
6 He Walked Away From His Mother After She Saved Him From Being Exiled
After Jayce’s research was discovered, he was put on trial and his fate was decided by the Council. Though Heimerdinger advised him not to mention his wish to create magic, Jayce brought it up anyway, and was nearly exiled from Piltover. His mother spoke up for him, telling the Council that he was not in his right mind and was chasing an impossible dream. Jayce’s mother just hoped that they would let him go home.
Heimerdinger sympathized with the Talis family, and the Council supported his decision to take Jayce out of the Academy and bring him back home. However, Jayce felt like his mother didn’t support him. Despite him being able to stay in Piltover because of her, he left her. Jayce said that he would find someone else to believe in him, which ended up being Viktor.
5 He Didn’t Reveal What Was Next For Hextech During His Speech
Over the years, Jayce and Viktor worked together to change Piltover using Hextech. On Progress Day, Heimerdinger usually gave a speech. This time it was decided that Jayce would be the one to give a speech when Piltover became 200 years old. Before Jayce gave the speech, he and Viktor wanted to show Heimerdinger what they had been working on. Since their work had the potential to be dangerous, Heimerdinger told them to continue their work for a few more years before revealing it to the public.
Mel encouraged Jayce to show what he’d been working on. She thought that Hextech could change the world, she had investors for it, and she considered Jayce to be a better leader than Heimerdinger. Jayce ended up listening to Heimerdinger, and did not have anything to reveal for Progress Day. This disappointed people, including Mel.
4 He Voted Heimerdinger Out Of The Council
Though Heimerdinger was once a mentor to Jayce, the two of them disagreed frequently after Jayce joined the Council. Heimerdinger is able to live for centuries longer than humans, so he witnessed how civilizations could be destroyed with magic in the wrong hands. Heimerdinger feared what Hextech could do, even if it helped the people of Piltover.
Jayce wanted to help people as quickly as possible, especially when Viktor began dying. Jayce hoped that Heimerdinger would be willing to help, but instead he wanted to destroy the Hexcore. Jayce then proposed to the rest of the Council that Heimerdinger should retire. They all agreed, and Heimerdinger was devastated to lose everything.
3 He Treated Viktor Poorly When He Returned From The Undercity
After Heimerdinger refused to help him and Jayce, Viktor met with Singed in the Undercity. When he returned, he was shocked to find out that Jayce had ordered a blockade between the Undercity and Piltover, and Jayce was upset with him for crossing the border.
Viktor explained to Jayce why he had gone there. Jayce snapped at him, saying that the people from the Undercity were dangerous. Jayce, evidently, forgot his partner was born and raised there. This made Viktor angry at him, and though Jayce apologized immediately, it was hard to like Jayce after this.
2 He Decided To Stop Fighting And Didn’t Take Responsibility For His Actions
Jayce and the Council learned that Silco was responsible for many of the terrible things that happened in the Undercity. Jayce wanted to fight back, but Mel turned the idea down, hoping to resolve things peacefully. The rest of the Council agreed with her. Later on, Vi met up with Jayce and proposed that the two could team up in order to destroy a Shimmer facility, taking away some of Silco’s power.
Jayce agreed to her idea and brought some enforcers with them. They ended up fighting the chemtanks at the facility, and Jayce accidentally shot a child. He felt awful for what happened and wanted to turn back. Vi told him that, by not doing anything to stop Silco for so long, he was just as responsible for the things that Silco did in the Undercity. Jayce then left, not taking responsibility for the harm he caused.
1 He Wanted To Imprison Jinx
After leaving Vi, Jayce met with Silco and proposed a deal with him. In exchange for giving Silco the Nation of Zaun, Silco would need to stop making Shimmer, return the Hextech Gemstone that Jinx stole, and hand Jinx over to the Council to be punished.
Silco was fine with the first two things Jayce wanted him to do, and Silco had already partially stopped making Shimmer. But, Silco would never betray Jinx. In Arcane, fans see that Silco loved Jinx more than he cared about making his dream come true. As Jinx and Silco were fan-favorites, audiences were happy to know that Silco would be willing to die before giving Jayce what he wanted.
