WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 39 of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, “Moroha and Family, Together Again,” now streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Animelab and Hulu.
After the three half-demon princesses meet up with Kagome and Inuyasha within the Black Pearl, the family finally reconnects and swaps stories about the events that occurred throughout the past 14 years. However, the reunion is cut short when they realize Kirinmaru is threatening the vulnerable Rin and Sesshōmaru in an attempt to eradicate the entire Great Dog Demon family. As they rush to escape the Black Pearl to lend support to Towa and Setsuna’s parents, Shippo finally makes his first long-awaited appearance in Yashahime.
At the Great Dog Demon’s grave, the three cousins struggle to mentally process meeting Kagome and Inuyasha for the first time. When Moroha and Inuyasha finally meet, they’re both awkward and hostile because they don’t know what to say to each other. Despite their initial reactions, Inuyasha hugs Moroha and reveals how proud he is of her and the safety of her father’s arms makes Moroha cry like a baby for the first time. As she falls into a deep sleep in her father’s lap, the rest of the family catches up and discusses the events that led them there.
As the family sits around talking, Towa takes out her smartphone to show Kagome pictures of her birth family living happily in the modern era while explaining how Sota raised her after she was separated from Setsuna. Kagome is happy and relieved to hear her family is doing well without her, and explains how time passes quickly within the Black Pearl so she hasn’t aged much.
The reunion’s light and happy mood shifts when the twin sisters explain what happened to their parents before they appeared in the Black Pearl. They assure Kagome that Rin is safe from Zero’s curse, but their father was now in danger after saving their lives. While Kagome is surprised to hear what happened to Sesshōmaru in his fight against Kirinmaru, Inuyasha insensitively interjects that he can’t believe his older half-brother got taken down so easily. After Towa explains how she brought Setsuna back to life by using her father’s broken Tenseiga, Inuyasha hatches a plan to get them out of the Black Pearl so they can help in the fight against Kirinmaru.
When Kirinmaru finally finds Takechiyo — who was running away with the Black Pearl to protect his friends who are trapped inside — Rin and Jaken show up to defend Takechiyo. Despite being a mere human, Rin tells Kirinmaru she’ll fight him. The opposing demon advises against that approach, but Rin refuses to stand down in her attempt to protect her twin daughters. As Sesshōmaru lays dying in the forest, he senses what’s going on and musters all his lifeforce to rush to her side. Sesshōmaru asks Kirinmaru why he’s obsessed with the Windmill of Time, and the demon finally reveals his motive to destroy the Grim Comet 500 years into the future to prove he’s the strongest demon to ever exist.
Meanwhile, Yashahime fans are buzzing after Shippo appeared for the first time. Initially introduced as Master Shippo, he now looks like an elderly fox with long gray hair. After he teaches a class of young fox demons to prepare them for their Demon Promotion Exam, he reveals that he uses magic to achieve the old man form to get his students to listen to him.
Now that he’s achieved his 25th rank in demon promotions and can use advance Fox Magic, Shippo uses “Up, Up, and Away” to transport him to places with memories of Kagome and Inuyasha in an attempt to find them. He happens to transport in the middle of the standoff between Sesshōmaru and Kirinmaru, and Takechiyo takes advantage of the situation by jumping on Shippo and telling him to take them away so they could both escape safely with the Black Pearl.
As the family within the Black Pearl discuss their escape plans, Jaken uses the Staff of Two Heads to reveal Rin and Sesshōmaru’s current stand against Kirinmaru to Kagome and Inuyasha. With their biggest fight ahead of them, the entire Great Dog Demon Family will have to work together to prevent Kirinmaru from destroying them all. Meanwhile, previews suggest the family will receive aid from the original Inuyasha cast, with Shippo visiting Sango and Miroku’s home to explain the situation.
