Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland recently discussed how much pressure he felt during the press tour for Spider-Man: Homecoming and the toll it took on his body. It was stressful enough that the actor burnt himself out.
In an interview with GQ, the actor explained, “I was really ill… But I didn’t say no. I was like, ‘I can do it, I can do it, I can do it.'” Holland was required to travel to 17 different countries for the tour and when he reached China, his body gave in and he was forced to walk offstage at a press conference and throw up. “I was under a lot of pressure to finish the day’s work. That was the first time I was really like, ‘No, I’m done now. I’ve given you everything,'” he stated.
Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal said of Holland, “There are very few actors working now who are versatile in the way that he is… And he’s the hardest-working person that I know.” In the same interview, Pascal stated that she wanted to continue making Spider-Man films with Holland. “I’ve talked to him about doing, like, 100 more.” She added, “I’m never going to make Spider-Man movies without him. Are you kidding me?”
Holland has suggested that he does not intend on playing Spider-Man for much longer. In the interview, he stated, “Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life… If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.” His No Way Home co-star hinted that Holland may set his sights on other roles, such as James Bond.
The upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home will be Holland’s sixth appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man and his third solo film. The film follows Peter Parker in the aftermath of Far From Home, which ended with Mysterio revealing Spider-Man’s secret identity to the world, thanks in part to J. Jonah Jameson. As revealed by the film’s trailers, Peter will turn to Doctor Strange to keep his identity a secret. But when something goes wrong with the spell, members of Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery from across the Multiverse start pouring in.
Among these villains are Doc Ock, with Alfred Molina reprising the role from Spider-Man 2; Green Goblin, with Willem Dafoe returning; Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman, Rhys Ifans Lizard, Jamie Foxx’s Electro and a mysterious second Goblin.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 17.
