Marvel’s Avengers Fans Spot a Classic Hero Hidden in the Latest Trailer

The latest trailer for Marvel’s Avengers not only analyzes Spider-Man’s loneliness but hints at the existence of another superhero.

In the trailer, which consists of various dynamic images accompanied by Peter Parker’s narration, a group of Avengers are seen relaxing in what appears to be a lounge. While the superheroes eat popcorn and hang out, a smiling man with red sunglasses and a black turtleneck is visible on the TV screen. While never explicitly named, the design and flashing cameras suggest this person be Simon Williams AKA Wonder Man.

Fans were quick to point out the resemblance, with one person on Reddit, u/SaltPost, writing, “it’s interesting to note that the guy on screen at 1.14 is clearly meant to be Wonder Man/Simon Williams (who was an actor alongside being a superhero). It’s probably just meant as a cameo rather than hint at a future character, but either way it’s cool to see he exists in this universe.”

Created by Stan Lee, Don Heck and Jack Kirby, Wonder Man first debuted in 1964 in The Avengers #9. Starting out as a villain working alongside Baron Zemo, Simon has a change of heart while fighting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, seemingly sacrificing himself to save them. Four years later, it was revealed that Wonder Man‘s brain patterns were recorded by Dr. Hank Pym in an effort to preserve his life. Simon eventually returns, this time as a hero fighting against evil.

While long-time comic books fans can hope that Wonder Man eventually joins the ranks of Marvel’s Avengers, players can look forward to the impending launch of Spider-Man in a new Hero Event titled “With Great Responsibility.” Peter Parker is finally swinging his way into Crystal Dynamics live-service brawler albeit with a slight catch. The Wall-Crawler will only be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, a decision that has caused a great deal of controversy in the game’s community.

Alongside Spider-Man, the next significant update for Marvel’s Avengers will also introduce the Klaw Raid, a tough-as-nails challenge that will see players uniting to stop the sonic villain once and for all. The Avengers will need “teamwork, communication [and] tactics” if they want to finally defeat Klaw and make off with some high-tier loot.

Marvel’s Avengers is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
