Sylvester Stallone shared a look at his new costume for Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“Yes what’s coming your way?” Stallone wrote on Instagram to accompany the image, which he quickly deleted. “Keep Your guard up!” The new costume keeps the shoulder accents from the previous version, but rather than black, Stallone looks to be sporting a bold blue costume.
Stallone appeared in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Stakar Ogord, a top member of the Ravagers. Stakar is based on Marvel Comics’ Starhawk, who was created by Steve Gerber and Sal Buscema and debuted in 1975’s The Defenders #27.
Though Stallone has previously hinted at Stakar’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was only recently that fans learned he’d actually be involved in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. “Here I am on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy, this is what they do beforehand,” he explained in a behind-the-scenes video. “This is very sensitive equipment that films every expression you could possibly have that can be duplicated if you’re not around.”
While Stallone is one of several familiar faces returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, most fans are fixated on the film’s newest addition: Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock.
The character who would become Adam Warlock — first known as Him — was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, making his debut in 1967’s Fantastic Four #66-67. Adam Warlock proper was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, and he debuted 1972’s Marvel Premiere #1. In both forms, however, he’s proved to be a crucial part of the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, playing a significant role in the various Infinity storylines.
As for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Warlock’s debut was teased in one of the post-credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when the Sovereign’s Ayesha was revealed to be in possession of his cocoon. Notably, a version of this cocoon was included as an Easter egg in both Thor: The Dark World and the first Guardians of the Galaxy.
