Eating humans also makes them stronger, and in most cases, even a Hashira is incapable of beating an Upper Moon in a one-on-one battle. During the show’s most intense scenes, it is often uncertain if the heroes will make it out alive.

Enmu proved himself to be difficult to defeat because he lulled people into dreaming happy dreams, in which they had everything they ever wanted. Humans were so willing to help him because they wanted the solace that he could easily provide. Tanjiro managed to put aside his own desires and wake up, but in order to escape the dream, he had to kill himself in the dream. During their fight, Enmu kept constantly putting Tanjiro to sleep, requiring Tanjiro to behead himself repeatedly. He nearly did so while he was awake, but Inosuke barely managed to stop him.
