With their MCU debut, the Eternals have reached a new level of notoriety. One of Jack Kirby’s greatest creations, the group hasn’t always been the most popular in the comics but they’ve played a sizable role in the Marvel Universe over the years. Created by the Celestials to be amazingly powerful, these immortals have protected the Earth from the Deviants and other threats for centuries.
The Eternals are all very powerful but some are greater than others. They have unique talents and experiences and their comics have been home to some extremely potent beings over the years. In fact, some of Marvel’s most powerful beings have appeared in Eternals comics.
10 Sprite Is The Eternal Child Of The Bunch
Sprite is one of the Eternals’ most tragic members. These are beings who don’t age, and the Celestials decided that having one of them be a twelve-year-old for the rest of existence was a good idea. This wore on Sprite over the years and caused the child to strike out at the Eternals and the Celestials in Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr.’s classic Eternals miniseries, one of the best Eternals stories.
Sprite started life as a boy but used the Machine to become a girl in their latest resurrection. Her powers are similar to the base powers of other Eternals and her unique outlook on life gives her an advantage over her foes.
9 Druig Is The Eternals’ Master Manipulator
While the Eternals try to fight among themselves as little as possible, they do find themselves sometimes having to deal with Druig. Druig has the super strength, durability, cosmic energy manipulation, and flight the rest of them have but with an added bonus. Druig can dominate minds, making slaves out of anyone without telepathic defenses, he is a powerful telekinetic, and can rearrange matter.
Druig is the least trusted of the Eternals, although he has helped them over the years. He’s also damaged them when it suited his purposes, which is why he has earned his reputation as the Eternals’ snake in the grass.
8 Gilgamesh Is The Physically Strongest Eternal
Most of the other Eternals have some kind of special extra ability, but Gilgamesh doesn’t. His special ability is that he’s physically stronger than the rest of them. He’s also the first Eternal to join the Avengers, even if it wasn’t exactly a memorable stint with the team. Over the years, he’s been the group’s bruiser, the one who gets picked to smash their foes.
Gilgamesh is the Eternals’ titan, and was inspired by the human legend of Gilgamesh. He’s more than proven his use in battle against the Deviants and others, using his amazing strength for the good of all.
7 Thena Is The Eternals’ Best Fighter
Thena was inspired by the Greek goddess Athena and is the best fighter the Eternals have. She’s been their workhouse in battle for years, using her ability to form weapons out of energy to the group’s advantage. She’s also been known for her love of mortals, as she’s left Olympia to stay among them for long periods of time.
Thena is easily one of the best fighters on the planet. She has more experience in combat than just about anyone who isn’t an Eternal and her love of humanity has grounded her, making her a fierce Earth defender.
6 Makkari Is The Fastest Eternal
All of the Eternals have been through some changes over the years but some of the most profound changes were live Makkari. The fastest Eternal, Makkari’s most recent incarnation is as a deaf woman but she was once a man. Back then, she was in love with Sersi and became the Dreaming Celestial’s spokesman.
Beyond the requisite Eternal powers, Makkari is the fastest Eternal. While she isn’t the fastest being in the Marvel Universe, she’s one of them, and her speed has come in handy over the years, making her one of the team’s most useful members.
5 Ikaris Has Served As Prime Eternal & His Eyeblasts & Durability Have Made Him A Deadly Warrior
Ikaris has long been one of the Eternals’ greatest warriors. He’s not the strongest or fastest but his durability is greater than anyone else’s and he’s the group’s most dangerous combatant. His eyeblasts are his main weapon and he’s incinerated scores of Deviants in single blasts with no trouble at all. Ikaris has been the end of many of the Eternals’ enemies.
He’s taken over for Zuras more than once over the years and he’s often described as an arrow, a weapon the Eternals aim at their enemies in order to destroy them. Few out there can survive a concerted attack from Ikaris.
4 Sersi’s Matter Manipulating Abilities Set Her Apart From The Rest
Sersi is the most well-known Eternal, a former Avenger, and drew inspiration from the ancient Greek witch Circe. Her greatest power is her matter manipulation ability, allowing her to control and change any matter around her. This power is what makes her one of the most powerful Eternals, as she can transform anything into anything else she wants.
Sersi is known as the Eternals’ party girl. She’s been alive a long time and while she has no problem fighting when she needs to, she’d rather eat, drink, and be merry.
3 Zuras Is The Oldest & Most Powerful Of The Olympian Eternals
Zuras was the first Eternal created by the Celestials and decreed their leader. He led his people in battle against the Deviants and every other threat. The first Prime Eternal, for ages he was the only one who could create the Uni-Mind with three or more Eternals. His wisdom knew no bounds.
Like any leader, Zuras has had to do things that weren’t exactly the noblest but he always did them for the good of his people. His power was always without compare among his people and the respect they had for him was paramount until they found out about the terrible secret he hid from them.
2 Thanos Is Insanely Powerful
Thanos is one of the Marvel Universe’s greatest villains. Thanos was driven to hate all living things. Enhancing his already considerable power, he’s set out to end all life in the universe more than once.
While he doesn’t often interact with his Olympian cousins, he’s recently been moving among them. Even groups of other Eternals have a problem defeating him, as he’s easily one of the most powerful beings in the entire universe.
1 The Celestials Created The Eternals
The Celestials are some of the smartest beings in the cosmos. For untold eons, they’ve traveled the stars and played with the building blocks of life on many worlds. They created the Eternals to battle against the Deviants and protect the Earth as humanity grew to a level whereupon the Celestials would return to judge their creation.
Individual Celestials are superlatively powerful. Their armor is nearly impregnable and their cosmic power is on a level that dwarfs understanding. No one knows what goes on in their massive heads and their presence is so frightening that few have the wherewithal to ask.
