My Hero Academia is set in a future society where superpowered Quirks are the rule, and pro heroes use their Quirks exclusively to keep the streets safe from crime and villainy. Some pro heroes are known for operating alone, such as the rabbit-themed Mirko, but other pro heroes belong to agencies, such as Endeavor.
A pro hero’s agency is staffed with sidekicks and administrative experts, and a proper sidekick will be loyal to a pro hero and assist them in any way they can, both during combat and during times of peace. Even the seemingly invincible All Might had a sidekick named Sir Nighteye. While there must be some perks to this position, no doubt there are also many downsides and harsh realities to face, too.
10 All Might Gets All The Attention
All Might is a global superstar, and he is the symbol of peace and hope across Japan. He is absolutely a public figure, and all heroes look up to him while all villains fear and hate him. So, it’s only natural that All Might dominates the headlines and captures the imagination of the public.
A humble sidekick such as Sir Nighteye won’t mind being ignored during all this fuss, but a different sidekick probably would mind a little since they work hard too.
9 All Might Is Difficult To Keep Up With
All Might is a highly proactive and confident person, and while he is a smart and thoughtful hero, he might also exasperate a sidekick who would rather take a slower approach to things. All Might can rush all over Japan to fight crime, and it may be difficult to keep track of him during his tireless antics.
All Might’s sidekick has to somehow keep track of where he is and what he’s doing, and make adjustments as All Might rushes from one crime scene to another. Most sidekicks probably couldn’t even handle All Might’s speed.
8 A Sidekick Must Have A Lot Of Paperwork To Handle
Pro heroes and their sidekicks do more than throw punches. They are licensed professionals, not caped vigilantes like Batman, and that means the Japanese government wants to see some paperwork proving what the hero and their sidekick are doing things correctly.
Pro heroes tend to cause a lot of collateral damage, either by accident or even on purpose, and this will result in a lot of paperwork for the sidekick to handle. Licensing a bunch of All Might merchandise and pursuing litigation against counterfeiters must also involve some serious paperwork.
7 Other Heroes Or Sidekicks May Envy All Might’s Sidekick
Many other pro heroes have sidekicks too, and despite the hazards, many of them would love to be All Might’s own sidekick. It would be a real honor to be All Might’s right-hand man like that, and anyone who does assume that role is bound to make some unfriendly rivals.
Any sidekick of All Might’s is bound to be the envy of most other sidekicks, and the petty ones might actually make their envy quite clear. Even the world of pro heroes is bound to have its fair share of workplace drama, especially among envious sidekicks.
6 Villains Might Use The Sidekick As A Hostage
Villains are perfectly willing to capture people and use them as leverage to apply pressure to pro heroes, police officers, and perhaps even student heroes, and even All Might’s sidekick may be vulnerable to this threat. All Might is powerful, but he can’t be everywhere at once.
When All Might has his back turned, villains such as League of Villains members or the Meta Liberation Army can swoop in and capture All Might’s sidekick, then make all kinds of demands. They might even kill the sidekick if the demands aren’t met.
5 The Sidekick’s Loved Ones Might Be Taken Hostage, Too
If the villains aren’t brave enough to take All Might’s sidekick hostage, they might take a more indirect route and capture the sidekick’s family members instead to use as leverage. This may be almost as effective in many cases.
The sidekick will be torn, and they just might give the League what they want, such as vital intel on All Might’s agency or money and weapons. All Might himself might be affected too since he is a kind person who wouldn’t want his sidekick or their family members to suffer.
4 Villains Might Simply Assassinate All Might’s Sidekick
There is a risk of villains capturing the sidekick or their family, but then again, certain villains won’t even bother with a hostage scheme. No villain is strong enough to kill All Might aside from All For One himself, but All Might’s sidekick is another matter.
Some villains may conspire to isolate and kill All Might’s sidekick while the symbol of peace is busy fighting elsewhere, and All Might return to the office to find a dead body and a taunting message written in blood, courtesy of the League of Villains. It’s a grave risk.
3 There’s A Lot Of Pressure To Succeed
All pro heroes and sidekicks are under pressure to succeed and save lives. This isn’t a game, after all. Heroes and their sidekicks are fighting real villains to save real lives, and there is no room for error. A mistake means people get hurt or killed, and property may be damaged.
All Might is expected to win every fight and save everyone without fail, and his sidekick is naturally expected to be the best sidekick of all time. Only the smartest and toughest heroes can stand by All Might’s side and endure the pressure to succeed time after time.
2 All Might Is Stubborn & Sometimes Irrational
All Might is a protective and noble person who always does what is right, but sometimes, he might push himself too far or let his strong emotions get the better of him. He nearly died at the hands of All For One, and Sir Nighteye was distraught to see his idol hospitalized with grave injuries like that.
However, All Might refused to retire even to protect his own health, and he persisted despite Sir Nighteye’s protests. This drove them apart, and it’s easy to imagine another sidekick going through all this, too. All Might is strong, but so is his will, even if he’s not thinking clearly. Not even a sidekick can just talk him out of something once he’s made up his mind.
1 The Sidekick Have To Deal With Lots Of Hopeful Applicants
A minor downside to being All Might’s sidekick would be the fact that so many other sidekicks and trainee heroes also want to be associated with All Might as a sidekick or intern. Dealing with so many hopeful applicants would get a little tiresome and tedious for All Might’s current sidekick.
All Might doesn’t have room for too many sidekicks, but that wouldn’t stop dozens or hundreds of applicants from demanding a fair shot to be his next helper. It’s likely that All Might would dump this problem on his sidekick’s lap so he can rush off and save the day elsewhere.
