Beloved actor Dean Stockwell passed away on Nov. 7 at the age of 85.
According to Deadline, Stockwell passed away peacefully at home due to natural causes. He is survived by his wife Joy Stockwell and two children: Austin and Sophie Stockwell.
Born in 1936, Stockwell’s career as an actor spanned over 70 years as he began working in the entertainment industry at the age of seven. Appearing in classic films like Anchors Aweigh, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Blue Velvet, Beverly Hills Cop II and David Lynch’s Dune. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor following his performance in Married to the Mob in 1988.
While Stockwell has appeared in dozens of films, series and Broadway productions, he’s mostly recognized for his role as Rear Admiral Albert “Al” Calavicci in Quantum Leap. He also played a significant part in the revival of Battlestar Galactica, wherein he appeared as Brother Cavil. Following the success of these productions, Stockwell was known to make appearances at many science fiction conventions.
Other notable projects which featured Stockwell include Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker, JAG, The Manchurian Candidate, The Twilight Zone and The Dunwich Horror. Stockwell won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for his role in Quantum Leap.
Stockwell retired from acting in 2015 due to a severe stroke. He spent the following years making art which he exhibited across the United States.
