Yet in their efforts to succeed, Nyxly and Lex may have kidnapped their own undoing. Esme is a Dyralian, an alien species that has the ability to copy other aliens’ powers. She successfully copied both J’onn and Kara’s powers, perfectly replicating them at full power. Nyxly is not technically an alien from space, but she is a super-powered being that Esme may be able to replicate.
Esme’s copied abilities have been on par with their original users. While copying J’onn’s phasing abilities, Esme was able to perfectly phase through her bedroom wall. She was afraid at the time and lacked control due to her not intending to phase, but she otherwise had no problem wielding J’onn’s power.
With Nyxly’s magic shutdown by the Super Friends’ anti-magic cuff, the Imp would be at a disadvantage against Esme if she copies the Imp’s 5th Dimensional magic. Alongside the power Esme inherited from the Love Totem, the little girl could prove a major threat to the unsuspecting Lex and Nyxly. Though they are aware of her alien status, neither have seen Esme in action like when she protected her old foster mom from a fire-breathing alien.
The biggest question is whether or not Esme can copy Nyxly’s magic. Unlike human magic, 5th Dimensional magic is nearly all-powerful and instant, with no need for ingredients or incantations. The main problem for Esme wouldn’t necessarily be copying and performing the magic itself, but instead copying Nyxly’s 5th Dimensional energy to power said magic. Now that she has 5th Dimensional energy from the Love Totem, Esme may have broken through that barrier.
Another possibility is that Esme will evolve from the Love Totem to the Allstone itself. Perhaps if Esme bears the six other Totems, she will become the living embodiment of the Allstone. Should she achieve this state, Esme could theoretically stop Nyxly and Lex with a thought and even undo any damage they cause. It’s possible she could even reverse the untimely death of CatCo reporter William Dey.
Although Esme has the potential to achieve ridiculous feats of power, there are several obstacles in her way. Mainly, Esme is a little girl with no proper fighting or superhero experience. It’s perfectly understandable that she would be afraid to act on her own without Kara or her moms’ support. There’s also the unknown factor of how close Esme has to be to imitate someone’s powers. Should she be saved or moved too far away from Nyxly and the other Totems, she could lose the abilities altogether.
If given the opportunity, however, Esme will play a vital role in the battle to save the universe. The latest addition to the Danvers-Olsen family already proved herself outgoing enough to stand up to school bullies and win her school’s baking competition. Although she hasn’t been with the family for long, Esme has already displayed the type of bravery the Danvers and Olsens are known for. With her family and friends by her side, Esme is sure to stop Lex and Nyxly in their efforts to conquer the universe.
