WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Walker Season 2, Episode 2, “The One Who Got Away,” which aired Thursday, November 4th on The CW.
As Walker prepares to bid farewell to fan-favorite series star Lindsey Morgan, her character, Texas Ranger Micki Ramirez, goes on an especially turbulent journey as her undercover assignment investigating the Northside Nation crime syndicate reaches a tragic conclusion. And while Cordell Walker and Micki target the head of the murderous gang that has caused Walker’s family so much misery, the Walker family and their longstanding rivals the Davidsons appear to near reconciliation after a shared incident from Walker’s childhood with their daughter and newly appointed Austin District Attorney Denise Davidson.
Picking up from the Season 2 premiere’s tense standoff, Micki impresses her criminal contact Serrano and his righthand man Garrison enough to let her go deeper into their operation, though Walker and Captain James are concerned as Micki moves away from their observation. Trey is similarly anxious by the lack of updates on Micki’s status during the meeting, which carries over to how he conducts overseeing detention, deciding to resort to techniques he experienced while training with the military.
In private, Garrison and Micki reveal that they know who each other actually are, including that Micki is working with the authorities and that the two used to be a romantic couple before Garrison became involved with Serrano, with Micki going as far as to leave Garrison at the altar years ago. Garrison reveals that he has more than enough dirt to take down Serrano for good, including that his crime lord boss was the one that ordered the sniper attack that Walker got caught in the crossfire of in the Season 1 finale. Walker begrudgingly loops Denise into the investigation to provide the district attorney with an update on the Serrano case; Liam is worried that this puts Walker in danger from a man that may have tried to kill him, but is overruled by Denise.
James and Walker meet with Garrison and Micki at Garrison’s home, with Garrison claiming that Serrano heads the Northside Nation and is willing to work with the Texas Rangers to take down his boss in exchange for legal immunity. Garrison also confirms that Serrano ordered Walker as a target in the sniper attack, in addition to Stan Morrison, as Walker poised a significant threat to Northside for busting Stan.
Denise agrees to cut a deal with Garrison in exchange for actionable evidence, moving with Liam to inform the neighboring county’s district attorney of the investigation and pending deal to bust Serrano. Walker and Micki move to confiscate evidence at a local data center on Serrano, only to find one of Serrano’s goons torching the place. They manage to recover only one file. Meanwhile, Garrison is visibly concerned over Micki’s safety while Denise, who conveniently arrives on the scene at that moment, is similarly concerned for Walker.
Garrison agrees to be an undercover informant to bust Serrano, on behalf of the Rangers, even going as far as to wear a wire if necessary. Micki and Garrison have a heart-to-heart in private before Garrison moves to rejoin Serrano and continue the investigation. Soon after, Micki discovers evidence that Garrison was at the bar the night when her initial contact inside Northside was murdered. Serrano kills the wire as soon as he meets Garrison, prompting Ramirez and Walker to intervene, with Micki confronting Garrison, who reveals himself as the sniper that nearly shot Walker. In the ensuing scuffle, Garrison falls to his death while James arrests Serrano when he tries to flee the scene. A heartbroken Micki leaves to clear her head, while Serrano assures Walker he will see him again as he is taken into custody.
Trey’s old military techniques are revealed to be team-building exercises that help August bond with Ruby’s ex-boyfriend, while Stella and Colton grow closer over their own turbulent family histories. Stella goes as far as to drive Colton home after detention, where they encounter a wild horse and decide to look after it. A sullen Trey remains home alone, unaware of what Micki has been up to over the course of an admittedly traumatic day as she and Walker solemnly share a drink to end the episode on a somber note.
Developed for television by Anna Fricke, Walker airs Thursdays on The CW.
