WARNING: The following contains spoilers for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 7, Episode 4, “Speakeasy Does It,” which aired Wednesday, November 3rd on The CW.
Following the 100th episode of Legends of Tomorrow, Gideon has now accepted her humanity and the challenges that lie ahead, such as figuring out how to reunite with the Legends. With help from Spooner and Astra, Gideon finally got the chance to experience the joys and worries that are bound to surface in every Legends of Tomorrow mission.
Astra, Spooner and Gideon boarded a train headed to Chicago, which will get them one step closer to the Legends and Dr. Gwynn Davies. Spooner manifested her inner Ava by laying down steps and rules that they must follow to safely get to New York. While they’d managed to get onto the train, they were left with another challenge: the ticket inspector. The inspector chased them through the train until they ran out of space, causing Spooner to pretend the ticket had fallen out of her pocket. Before the inspector could reprimand them, a kind woman stepped in and pretended Spooner, Astra and Gideon were members of her band and that their tickets were held by their sleeping manager, who gets angry when disturbed.
The Legends thanked the woman, who revealed herself to be Maude of the Masqueradies. As they got acquainted, Gideon recognized one of Maude’s bandmates and spewed out her entire life history, including her marriage, children and almost her death date before Spooner jumped in and told Gideon to stay quiet or else risk breaking the timeline. Playing into the musician bit, Astra established backstories, with Gideon being a vocalist, Spooner as her vocal coach and Astra as her manager. The prospect of a female manager excited Maude, as she saw no real value in her own manager. To quell her curiosity, Astra asked to see the Masqueradies’ contract and was shocked to find out that he was taking 60 percent of their earnings. She stood up to him and mentioned that the contract was void, meaning the Masqueradies had the power to make changes. Inspired, Maude fired him on the spot. Astra stole the tickets and “upgraded” them to first-class seats.
As they arrived in Chicago, the Legends met Maude’s boyfriend, Ross Bottoni, and noticed an immediate change with Maude. Her confidence dropped, her voice hid away and she fell into herself while Ross berated her for firing her manager, stating he decides everything about her life. Astra was shocked to find out just how strong of a hold Ross had over Maude but she also recognized his name as a soul she tortured in Hell, describing him as a monster. She begged the Legends to help her save Maude but Spooner pushed back, reminding her of the mission at hand; getting back to the team. Worried, Astra asked Gideon what lies ahead in Maude’s future and found out that her body will be found in the Chicago River in December 1925 and will remain a cold case. With that, Astra knew what she had to do; no matter the cost, she had to save Maude.
Backstage, the Legends pled with Maude to run, believing in a better life for her away from Ross. While Maude packed with Astra and Spooner’s help, Gideon picked up some items and left the room, hidden in the background. After the Legends helped Maude leave, they felt happy to have helped someone, until they realized Gideon was missing. On stage, covered with a mask, Gideon stood behind the microphone and sang Maude’s parts, giving her time to run as far as she could. Gideon wowed the crowd as her voice echoed through the room.
After the performance, Ross went backstage to applaud his girlfriend but found Gideon behind the mask. Astra and Spooner made him feel his worst fear, spiders crawling all over him, as they told him to leave Maude alone. With that, the Legends saved Maude, changing history for the good. However, in all the excitement, they missed the train to New York, keeping them one step behind the Legends of Tomorrow.
To see if Gideon and co. catch up with the rest of the team, new episodes of Legends of Tomorrow air Wednesday nights on The CW.
