Warning!! The following contains spoilers for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, available now.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise announcement over the summer, as was the reveal that the game would release only a few months later. With such a small window, the game seemed like a small entry that would lack the same weight and detail of a full game like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. But with the game finally hitting shelves, it’s confirmed that there’s more to the game than meets the eye.
The game’s replay value is through the roof, with a lengthy story and multitudes of hidden collectibles to find. However, it also brings up the question of how long the game takes to beat and complete. Guardians is already being hailed as one of the best narrative experiences in years, but will even die-hard fans be motivated to achieve 100% completion, or are most players better off just enjoying the story mode?
How Long Does it Take To Beat Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy?

The single-player experience serves as the game’s foundation and creates a structured, detailed world that feels alive. This is due to the story’s scope, which has the Guardians traveling the galaxy to find a way to stop the Universal Church of Truth from enslaving the entire universe. As a result, players are taken to the furthest reaches of the cosmos and given opportunities to get to know the crew and their stories. Players looking to rush through the game can complete it in close to 14 and a half hours. However, anyone looking to explore, interact and find collectibles should expect the playthrough to take closer to 19 hours. On average, players are looking at 16 hours and 45 minutes to complete the game. That being said, even after completing the game, players will likely want to dive right back into the game’s world to continue discovering its contents.
How Long Does it Take To Complete Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy?

Players looking to get 100% completion will be facing down a difficult challenge. Thankfully, all achievements are available in the game with no pay-to-win features to get achievements faster. Aside from New Game Plus, completionists will also have to be on the lookout for collectible items, hidden costumes and lore texts scattered throughout each level. There are also upgrade items that are hidden throughout the world and contribute to fully upgrading Peter Quill.
Because of the combat parameters to gain specific trophies, the New Game Plus mode and the exploration needed to find collectibles, a slowed completionist run will take 27 hours. However, for those that know exactly where to go and are ready to find everything fast, a completionist run will take 21 hours. On average, completing the game will take 24 hours. Thankfully, every trophy could be earned in a single playthrough, making completing the game less challenging.
Are The Rewards Worth The Time?

Aside from a Platinum Trophy stating all trophies have been discovered, there’s not much left to earn after fully completing the game. That being said, there are many rewards for players who fully complete the story on the first run. Storywise, players have the opportunity to replay their favorite chapters, though any upgrades and collectibles won’t be saved. There’s also a New Game Plus that lets players make new choices and find any items missed on the first playthrough. Finishing the story also makes the team’s golden suits available, along with the throwback outfit pack and Star-Lord’s Sun-Lord and City-Lord suits.
Ultimately, 100% completion may only be something die-hard completionists will want to tackle. While doing so is less challenging than other games, most players may feel fulfilled just by completing the main story.
