In seven seasons, Coulson’s team in Agents of SHIELD has faced death on more than one occasion. This article will look at each time a fan-favorite member of Coulson’s team bit the dust. However, in this instance, the times that Life-Model Decoy versions of the members were killed will not count.
Melinda May

Melinda May is one of the toughest members of SHIELD. By the time of her first death in Season 4, she had already endured and overcome more trauma than any one person should. However, in the episode “Uprising,” May faced a mystical threat that proved to be too much for her. Infected by a spirit, she was slowly losing her mind, and Jemma Simmons was forced to stop her heart and bring her back, killing her in order to cure her.
Her subsequent death was in the Season 6 finale, “New Life,” where May was stabbed by a man who looks like Coulson, and while she eliminated the season’s villain, she died of her wounds. Thankfully, Simmons arrived in time to nurse her back to health with futuristic technology.
Daisy Johnson

In the early episodes of Agents of SHIELD, Daisy went by Skye and was an expert hacker, but not yet a competent fighter. But after years of training and control over her Inhuman abilities, she has since become a formidable threat. That being said, she meets her match in the Season 7 episode “As I Have Always Been,” as she and the team are stuck in a time storm that places them in a seemingly endless loop. Every time Daisy dies, the loop resets until she finds a way to end it. One of her several deaths was due to a gas leak, but she had also witnessed the deaths of her friends, which was equally traumatizing.
Jemma Simmons

The resident scientist on the team, Jemma Simmons, had to learn the hard way to defend herself after being stuck in multiple life or death situations. For almost the entire series, Simmons had cheated death, but in the episode “As I Have Always Been,” she finally met her end. While in the same time-loop as Daisy, Jemma likely suffered her own deaths. However, the most prominent one was when she asphyxiated, unable to be saved by her grandson, Deke, in time. Thankfully, once she and the team escaped the storm, her previous demise was reset, just like Daisy’s.
Leo Fitz

Leo Fitz has had several brushes with death since Agents of SHIELD started. One of the earliest is when he attempted to sacrifice himself after Ward locked him and Jemma in a containment chamber at the bottom of the ocean. Though he didn’t succumb to the ocean pressure, he suffered minor brain damage. By Season 5, he had overcome his affliction and became even braver than he could’ve expected. Sadly, in the Season 5 finale, “The End,” Fitz is killed by falling debris during Skye’s battle with Graviton. Before his death, Fitz had already traveled 74 years into the future to save Simmons and the team, making his death as heartbreaking as it is sudden.
Mack

Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie is the rock that holds the team together. His calm demeanor has helped the team countless times to overcome any personal and shared obstacles. Since joining the team, he also formed a close bond with Fitz as he helped him overcome his brain injury after being trapped at the bottom of the ocean. Though the character hasn’t died in the show’s official canon, he isn’t without his own gruesome fate. In the Season 6 episode, “Inescapable,” Fitz and Simmons must face their darkest personalities. For Simmons, it’s her Id, which takes the form of a murderous creature. With Fitz trapped, he calls for Mack to help, but Id Simmons kills him and bites his head off before he can.
Yo-Yo Rodriguez

Yo-Yo Rodriguez overcame her own trauma after losing her arms and became one of the most reliable members of the team. With the ability to run to and from a location at rapid speeds in one heartbeat, she’s invaluable for quick getaways, rescues and espionage. But in the Season 5 episode “Past Life,” she encounters a version of herself that has been through Hell. While trapped on a Kree vessel in the future, Yo-Yo finds a future version of herself that was killed and revived multiple times for studying. Finally free, she confronts her tormentor, Kasius, but sadly, he slits her throat, killing her in front of her boyfriend, Mack. Like Mack, this is another death that doesn’t affect the canon Yo-Yo but still impacts the series.
